Uniform "Scottish Archers, or Queens Bodyguards for Scotland," a very complete uniform consisting of green court tailed tunic jacket, with elaborate collar and cuffs decorated in gold and silver thread, of thistles etc., and with original engraved gilt small and large buttons and with original epaulettes, the matching trousers with gold stripe,and with a bicorn with gilt button and feathers; together with red tartan kilt, and green tartan sash, and green velvet Balmoral hat with plated badge "Bydand," a black Glengarry bonnet, and two sporran's with silver plated mounts, the entire contained in military tin trunk, with brass plaque, engraved with name of owner "Col. A SIGNIFICANT AND UNIQUE GROUP OF SIX MEDALS, to a soldier who served in the 2st Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment, in the Sudan Campaign and later in WWI, the group consists of Queens Sudan Medal, named 4014 Private H.Angrave, 1/N Staffordshire Regiment, British War and Victory medals named 4014 W.O. Class two, H.E.Angrave, North Staffordshire Regiment, Edward VII Army long service medal, named 4014, Sergeant H.E.Angrave, North Staffordshire Regiment, Khedives Sudan medal, with 'Hafir' Bar, named to No 4014 Private H.Angrave 1.North Staffordshire Regiment (large capital impressed) and Edward VI Meritorious Service medal, named W.O. Class two, H.E.Angrave, North Staffordshire Regiment, 'the first five medals are on a period wearing bar, all with period ribbons etc'. Hugo E Angrave served with the 2st Battalion who were based in Ireland, but moved to England in 1883, they then moved to the West Indies and on to Natal South Africa in 1887, the Battalion moved to Mauritius 1890, Malta 1893, and Egypt in 1895, the Battalion undertook operations under Lord Kitchener,after moving from Wadi Halfa to avoid a cholera outbreak, in the September they were involved in the battle against the 'Dervish Army' at 'Hafir', which ultimately ended the campaign, the 1st Battalion were the only British Line Regiment to be awarded the 'Hafir' bar M.I.C confirms the WWI pair only, also, with the group is a nice North Staffordshire Pacing stick, metal topped with Regiment crest, etc, four solid silver small spoons named on the cartouche, named Sergeant Angrave, a nice sepia photo on card of a soldier in Scottish Victorian Untiform, kilt etc, two S Stafford WWI era Collar dogs and a small button

* ALEXANDER GOUDIE RP RGI (SCOTTISH 1933 - 2004), THE PORTRAIT OF JOHN STEPHENS ORR (PORTRAIT OF A PORTRAITIST) oil on linen, signed 112cm x 112cm Framed. Labels verso: James Bourlet & Sons Ltd, 17-18 Nassau Street; London together with handwritten artist label inscribed with title, artist's name and address. Note: John Stephens Orr (1907 - 1990) was a famous Glasgow photographer with an interest in people and motor cars. Practicing between 1930 and 1970 in Glasgow's Langside and later at No. 4 Somerset Place, Charing Cross, he became known for his portraits of society figures in magazines such as Scottish Field . His usual subjects were judges, high profile lawyers, the aristocracy and controversial music hall characters. Orr also photographed some internationally famous celebrities and captains of industry, all visitors to Glasgow. Orr wore a distinctive kilt and photographed in a portrait style similar to Yousuf Karsh. "He recorded the last glimmers of a confident Scottish society in flamboyant style" His later life was spent with his wife, Jenny, on the Scottish Clyde coast island of Cumbrae. His many subjects included Paul Robeson — Singer and black activist, Dame Marie Rambert — Founder of Ballet Rambert, Marc Chagall — Painter, Clare Bloom - Actress, Richard Burton — Actor, Stanley Baxter — Comedian, Jacques Tati — Film maker, Paul Tortelier — Cellist, David Brown - Aston Martin cars, William Lyons - Jaguar, Austin cars, Walter Owen Bentley - Rolls Royce/Bentley cars and no doubt, Alexander Goudie - Artist.

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN FIGURE OF AMUN EGYPT, LATE PERIOD, 664 - 332 B.C. cast bronze, the god depicted striding forward on his left leg, wearing a false beard, conical headdress and pleated kilt, his right arm held by his side, his left raised, once gripping a sceptre(22cm tall)Footnote: Provenance: Private collection, Paris, acquired at Hôtel Drouot in the late 1960's - early 1970s. Accompanied with French cultural property passport.

26th Dynasty, 664-525 BC. A substantial bronze figure of the ram-headed god Khnum advancing, wearing a pleated kilt, with an Atef crown with horizontal ram's horns surmounted by rearing ureai crowned with sun discs, a flail in his raised right hand, feet absent; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Thomas, A.P., Egyptian Gods and Myths,Aylesbury, 1986, plate 12. 1.1 kg total, 28cm including stand (11"). Property of a central London gentleman; formerly in the collection of Major J. Findley [1915-1990], Scotland, acquired in the 1950s-1960s; thence by descent; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no.163506-10055. The god Khnum (or Khnemu) the 'Moulder' was one of the earliest gods of Egypt, worshipped especially at Philae and Elephantine, both in Nubia. He was thought to have made mankind of out of clay on a potter's wheel. It was Khnum who helped Isis to gather the severed fragments of the body of the god Osiris and re-made them. He was considered the father of the gods, along with Amun-Ra and Ptah. Very fine condition. ( A video of this lot can be viewed on Timeline Auctions website.)
