Manuscript night watchman's journal for the Belper district of Derbyshire during the reign of King William IV, 'Watchmen's Reports from February 3rd 1833 to July 16th 1835', approx. 350 to 400 pages of handwritten entries recording water levels, clocks and street lamps as well as more unusual incidents, for example: 'May 28 [1833] at 3 in morning. A great disturbance at Gin Shop occasioned by Wm Minton pulling a man down stairs & on Saml Ward saying he had served him right was immediately knocked down by a person (unknown) who ran away as soon as he had done it'; 'May 26. Richd Naiden lying drunk on pavement at Turners at 11 o'clock'; 'May 27. Saml Marsh came to work Beastly drunk and behaved very improperly'; Sunday 31 Aug 1834, Herbert Spencer, Samuel Wood, Job Jackson, M. Flint Jnr had been stealing apples from Mrs Tolpises of the Holly Seat, Shottle. Spencer was seized and found to have about 2 pecks of Pears in a Bag - was locked up and took before the Magistrates when he was sentenced to 3 Mo's Imprisonment'. The book includes some accounting notes and calculations to the endleaves, including the names of constables and the cost of 'Watchmen's Great Coats' and handcuffs. An amusing and bawdy transfer decorated pottery jug: one side printed in black with two gentlemen plying a lady with gin outside a tavern called the Maids Head, the proprietor of which is I. Mycock, the reverse with a twelve line priapic poem, with purple and copper lustre bands, early 19th century, 14 cm high, [cracked].

A Gordon's Gin advertising note card, signed to recto by all the England 1966 World Cup final team, plus manager Alf Ramsey, trainer Harold Shepherdson and squad members Norman Hunter, Ian Callaghan, Peter Bonetti, George Eastham and John Connelly and others including John Hollins and Cyril Knowles, presentation inscription at head "For Peter, 12 years-old", verso blank with a few light marks, 22.7 x 15.7 cm Provenance: Given to the vendor by the recipient, whose mother, a waitress at the post-match dinner, collected the signatures for her son Peter. He had no interest in sport and gave it to his football-mad friend (the vendor) in 1966. (1)

Grotesque balloon shooting will again be a feature at today's Great Display at Hendon", pen and ink cartoon with some blue pencil shading, pencil caption beneath, with Hitler flying a military aircraft with machine gin firing at balloons of various German political parties, with a 'Nazi Spirit Filling Station' and 'Brown Shirt Factory' on the ground to the right, signed, 315 x 385 mm., 1933.⁂ Hendon Aerodrome was an aerodrome in London, England, and was an important centre for aviation from 1908 to 1968. In March 1933, the Enabling Act, an amendment to the Weimar Constitution, passed in the Reichstag and allowed Hitler and his cabinet to pass laws-even laws that violated the constitution-without the consent of the president or the Reichstag.
