In the 1950's he worked with directors Ken Russell, John Schlesinger , and Ken Loach (among others) on the arts programme "Monitor." Further credits included "The Ascent of Man" (1973) and "The Shock of the New" (1980), and in the late 70s, TV shows such as "Porridge" and "Doctor Who." during Tom Baker's era. A highlight for John was working with the poet John Betjeman on "A Passion for Churches "(1974), "Metro-Land" (1973), and "Summoned by Bells" (1976).
