DUTCH EAST INDIA COMPANY.A large 17th century Japanese Arita 'VOC' charger, at the centre, the monogram of the Dutch East India Company. Diameter 37cm. Provenance: From the home of the vendor's great uncle, who was the last private banker in the Netherlands & had a home in Weesp. The original Jenever 'Dutch Gin' was distilled in Weesp. Much of the Jenever was made for the VOC, who used the filled stone bottles as ballast & also distributed it amongst the sailors & passengers to curb scurvy. (The vendor has produced lengthy historical notes to accompany this lot.
Four stoneware bottles marked "Irish Whisky", "Brandy", "Gin", "Scotch Whisky" in a wicker carry basket CONDITION REPORTS Scotch bottle has a chip to the handle, all have dirt including paint etc, some firing faults. Corks are perished, one cork is missing the cap to the interior, some don't fit. All items have general wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for more details.

An early 19th century Staffordshire pearlware Bacchus mask jug, possibly by Enoch Wood, along with a white glazed Staffordshire double sided figure, gin and water. Largest 22.5cm. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Jug with the pout re glued. Gin and water with a small filled chip to the brim of his hat and pitting.
