A Victorian fishing tackle compendium, consisting of a leather bound wallet with fold-out sections with parchment pockets to hold items of fishing tackle, and a further compartment to hold a boxwood line winder, including a packet of gut traces by Gowland of Crooked Lane, London (ILLUSTRATED)
PASHLEY LETTERS: Collection of ten letters and one envelope to and from Robert Pashley, Ross on Wye dating c 1940s handwritten and typed, varied contents include River Wye matters, bailiffs’ the use of nylon lines, and an interesting hand correct typed note from Pashley with comments regarding JJH Hardy and his surprise to read that Pashley used a trout Palakona rod and trout casts to catch 101 salmon in 1912 all on trout tackle, Pashley, controversially and arguably the captor of more Wye salmon than any other angler of his time. Often seen using a Malloch reel and greenheart rod from a punt, his extensive use of spinning tackle on the Wye often caused heated discussion among the purists in the columns of the Fishing Gazette. His friend J. Arthur Hutton, Editor encouraged Pashley to become a regular contributor for the Wye fishing area. It was however good for business for his friend and Devon minnow Patentee Herbert Hatton of Hereford. NOTE: Interesting historical content.
