Sporting/Fishing: A Large Carved Wooden Model of a Salmon, by P.D. Malloch of Perth, Scotland, 1853-1921, a very large naturalistically painted half block carving of a Salmon, 137.5cm length P.D. Malloch were a famous old-time fishing tackle shop located in Perth, Scotland, which employed professional Scottish model makers who would create exact copies of your trophy fish. Malloch models divided up into 3 categories referred to as the early Malloch maker 1900-1922, the middle Malloch maker 1920s to the early 1930s, and the late Malloch maker from 1934-1952. P.D. Malloch also established the Tay Salmon Fisheries Company in 1899, buying up the fishing rights along the river and estuary and creating one of the biggest operations of its kind. Unfortunately, the company has now ceased trading as of February 2020 after being in business for 149 years. . all fins are damaged and in need of repair, damage to lower jaw, a nail is present to top of mouth, in need of full restoration, 23/07/20
Medieval Fishing Weight.Circa 13th - 15th century AD. 88.05 grams. 75.81 mm. An elliptical-shaped lead fishing weight with tapering ends. On each side is a raised rib that forms the circular suspension loop at one end and terminates in a blunt point at the other. Ref: The Archaeology of Medieval Fishing Tackle by J M Steane and M Foreman (Fig 12.8).
Medieval Lead Weight.Circa, 1300-1500. Lead, 90.03 grams. 58.44 mm. A cast lead medieval fishing or net weight with a broad bulbous body at the base. The sides have a rounded rib that tappers up to the integral suspension loop or eye. Ref:Similar weights are recorded as being associated with fishing in the medieval period see: CBA Research Report No 74 at - The Archaeology of Medieval Fishing Tackle by J M Steane and M Foreman (Fig 12.8).
