A large painted Salmon cast on painted backboard, bearing plaque inscribed "Caught by Peter Lowden on the River Annan Length 54½", Girth 20½", Weight 50½ lbs" (Provenance : Peter Loudon was the manager of Hardy Brothers' Edinburgh fishing tackle shop. The original cast of this fish was made and painted for the Loudon family by George Wright. It was subsequently bought by Mr Brook of Hoddom castle . This second cast was made for the Loudon family therafter.Peter was drowned in the River Earn near Crieff in the 1930's when playing a large fish. Ref: "The Domesday Book Of Giant Salmon" by Fred Buller pgs 84 & 85.) CONDITION REPORTS The fish has numerous chips and cracks along the body. There is a large chip to the dorsal fin and also small chips along the entire body and towards the jaws and the head. The dorsal fin has a large crack extending all the way across and the anal fin also has a large crack extending all the way across. There are chips in the caudal fin, numerous accretions across the body and chips and paint missing. Small cracks, dents and chips on the pelvic fins and also numerous areas of general wear and tear commensurate with age. The wooden board it is mounted on has numerous areas of paint missing, saw marks, pencil marks and also discolouration and staining to the back board and the paint on both the fish and the back board. There are numerous drill holes on the wooden mount. The plaque is worn and there are two saw marks on the left and the right hand sides that go all the way down the board. There is also a corner chopped out on the top right hand side
