HAFNER KGL HOFBUCHSENMACHER CASSEL', inlaid gold lines at breech, dove-tailed front and rear sights, rounded chisel engraved brushed bright triple-bite action featuring depictions of stags, boars and hounds against a ground of vines, carved percussion fences, flush fitting folding peep-sight set into the top-tang, chisel engraved back-action locks, each featuring a central deer against a field of vines, engraved hammers, chequered walnut semi pistol grip butt-stock with raised cheek-piece and inlet at toe with a chisel engraved cartridge magazine for four rounds, replacement hard rubber ribbed heel-plate with white-line spacer, set triggers for both barrels, the trigger guard bow with a gilt monogram within an oval border surmounted by a crown and smooth splinter fore-end (tip absent), refinished. Continental Late Iron Age, an uninscribed gold quarter stater of Gallic extraction (attributed to the Nervii) probably dating to the second century BC. Rudd's 'crossed lines with rider' type. Obverse: series of crossed chisel marks. Reverse: horse and rider left, stylised lyre below. Diameter: 13.5mm. Weight: 1.9g. C.f ABC p. 29, no. 37.Provenance: found Rettendon, Essex.
Original vintage Chinese propaganda poster "Walk the road of Dazhai" featuring a smiling Chinese worker in the foreground breaking rocks with a hammer and chisel while other workers build a rice terrace stone wall on the hill above farming fields and water behind him, the slogan below in red and white letters. Mao Zedong set up the Dazhai community as a model area of agriculture during the Cultural Revolution period (1960-70s). Good condition, small tears and creases on margins. Year of printing: 1965, country of printing: China, designer: Qian Daxin, dimensions (cm): 107x76.5.
Great Western Railway 12 inch teak cased drop dial chisel bottom fusee railway clock with a large rectangular plated chain driven fusee movement. The one piece turned surround has had part of the top cut down and has one side door and a bottom door with the lock removed and replaced with a GWR ball bearing catch. The bezel, still with its wartime black finish, requires the hinge to be soldered back on. The GWR ivorine clock numberplate GWR 1192 is screwed to the front of the drop. The dial has been repainted BR-W post 1948 and has some areas of paint loss. A very early GWR clock supplied by John Walker of London circa 1860-1870. Requires some restoration but complete with pendulum and key and appears to be working.

Hall, Hatfield, circa 1810 The four pillar single weight driven movement with tapered plates enclosing five-wheel train and anchor escapement for regulation by a seconds pendulum, the frontplate stamped with crowned HANDLEY & MOORE trademark over serial number 2017, the 19.5 inch circular slightly convex cream painted Roman Numeral dial indistinctly signed A. HALL, HATFIELD to centre and with steel spade hands within delicate stepped ogee turned mahogany surround, the rectangular drop-trunk case with side doors behind dial over and shaped ears to throat over caddy moulded concave-topped door to trunk and chisel-shaped foot, (lacking pendulum and weight, damage and losses to case), 115.5cm (45.5ins) high. Provenance: Brocket Hall, Hertfordshire. Andrew Hall is recorded in Loomes, Brian Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World, Volume 2 as working first in London (circa 1802-04) then in Hatfield, Middlesex by 1828 where he worked until 1839. The partnership partnership of Handley and Moore was established in 1798 when two former apprentices of John Thwaites, George Handley and John Moore, went into business together. Working in Clerkenwell Close, London they mainly supplied other makers with finely made movements. The partnership continued until 1824 when Handley died, after which Moore continued alone.
