Barbara Leigh Smith Bodichon 1827 - 1891 - A 19th Century Victorian watercolour painting titled Trunks of Scotch Fir 1874, the painting depicting felled fir trees against a forest background. Signed to corner BLS Bodichon 1874. Framed and glazed with notation to verso. Barbara Leigh Smith Bodichon was an English educationalist and artist, and a leading mid-19th-century feminist and women's rights activist. She published her influential Brief Summary of the Laws of England concerning Women in 1854. She co-founded the English Woman's Journal in 1858. 42cm x 50cm.
DAVID BOWIE DEMO TAPE. A boxed reel of Scotch 7" tape, with contents to include three studio recordings made by David Bowie and band circa December 1966 for inclusion on his self titled debut album. The takes recorded and heard on this tape will not have been previously publicly available. There is approximately 27 minutes worth of very clear, high quality audio to comprise: 13.5 minutes of audio during takes for 'Silly Boy Blue' to include five false starts and two full takes, with plenty of light hearted studio chatter from Bowie and band (just after the trumpet opening Bowie comes in 'Sorry! I forgot what i was doing..'). There is approx 7.5 minutes of audio during takes for 'Sell Me A Coat' to include two false starts and a complete take, with more studio chat and instructions to David RE his timing. Also approx 6 minutes of audio for 'Please, Mr Gravedigger' to comprise two false starts (one interrupted somewhat tersely by Bowie who complains of an unthinking studio guest 'your feet are too loud') and one full take. This item is sold as an artefact only, without copyright. Any reproduction is strictly prohibited.

Original fitted metal box. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: The epaulettes themselves appear in good condition with only minor wear with age. the Japanned metal box has surface rust overall.

Birds drawn from Nature, 1st edition, Edinburgh: Edmonston & Douglas, 1862, 6 pp. hand-coloured lithographic title-page on india paper, mounted, 22 similar plates, a little spotting to plates, chiefly to mounts, text-leaves bound, modern tan half leatherette retaining lithographic panel from front board of original binding, folio (37 x 26.6 cm) (Qty: 1)NOTESCf. Mullens & Swann p. 67, Nissen IVB 106, Wood p. 242 ('A series of spirited drawings of Scotch birds'), Zimmer p. 59: all for the standard issue with the plates uncoloured and printed direct. One of perhaps six copies with hand-coloured plates on india paper. The advertisement leaf in the second edition (1868) states that 'Part I. [i.e. the first edition], as originally published, may also still be had, price 10s. 6d. Half a dozen copies of this volume have been carefully coloured under Mrs. Blackburn's personal superintendence. One of these is presented to the Zoological Society of London. The others may be had from Mr. MacLehose on remittance of four guineas each copy'.
