Francis Lee 1967-69 Manchester City Football Contract:, standard four page form made 9th October 1967 for two years with a starting salary of £60 per week, £10 for each first team appearance and £5 if the club were 11th or higher in the league at the end of a match on a Saturday afternoon.,also details of bonuses for winning the League, League Cup or FA Cup and a bonus of £1 for each 1000 spectators over 20,000-25,000, signed by Francis Clark and Walter Griffiths (Club Secretary) together with a copy of a letter from Walter Griffiths on Manchester City Football Club headed paper authorising the transfer fee of £60,000 to Bolton Wanders for Francis Lee. (2)*Notes- Francis Henry 'Franny' Lee CBE was born in Lancashire in 1944 and started his professional football career with Bolton Wanderers. In 1967 he was spotted by Manchester City manager Joe Mercer and Manchester City signed Lee for a club record £60,000 transfer fee. In his first season with Manchester City he scored 16 league goals in 31 appearances and was crucial in Manchester City's 1967/68 League Championship season and scored a penalty in the 1970 European Cup Winners Cup. Lee took part as an England player in the 1970 Mexico World Cup and was the first English player ever to receive a red card in a World Cup. He holds the record for the highest number of penalties awarded in a season, which has led to accusations of diving. From 1974-1976 Lee played for Derby County before retiring from football, In 1994 he became Chairman of Manchester City until 1998 when the club was on the brink of relegation to the Third Division.
A truly unique tennis related gramophone record collection,firstly an 'Autographed' "Reception to The British Lawn Tennis Team" (Australia 1929) 78rpm record - A very rare original, 10 inch, black shellac, two-sided 78rpm gramophone record released on the Colombia record label in Sydney, Australia, an incredible recording of the voices of the British touring representatives - Harry A. Parker (New Zealand), Humbert A. Sabelli (Team Manager & Secretary of the LTA), J.(Colin) Gregory (Australian Open winner that year), H.W. "Bunny" Austin, H. Frank Peach (Australia), Miss Floris Conway (Australian Tennis Player), and Miss Marjorie Cox Crawford (Australian who married Jack Crawford), uniquely, all of them signed the original disc platter and whose names are therefore moulded into the surface of the reverse of this record, recordings are of the team's fascinating individual impressions on their arrival at the "little town" of Sydney, Australia; secondly - A double-sided 8 inch 78rpm shellac gramophone record titled "Useful Hints to Lawn Tennis Players Part 1 and Part 2 by (Sir) Francis Gordon Lowe, A Leading Authority on The Game." (June 1929.), Lowe is best known for winning the Australasian Championships in 1915, supplied in its original "Broadcast" long-playing record sleeve - the original price being one shilling and three pence; thirdly - "The Game of Lawn Tennis" with Lord Aberdare, Neal Fraser (Australia), Lew Hoad (Australia), Harry Hopman (Australia), Barry Mackay (USA) and Bill Holmes (Queen's Club). A 7 inch 45rpm E.P. by EMI (1960), in a fine, original picture sleeve; fourthly - "Learn Tennis with Arthur Ashe - For Beginners and Advanced Players." (1974), a double-sided 12 inch LP, supplied in the original sleeve and with an instructional picture booklet (both in fine condition) on the Manhattan Recording Co. label; together with dvd copies of "Little Miss Poker Face (Helen Wills)", "Tennis Highlights" with Raymond Glendenning plus two others copies of period tennis films.
