HINDEMITH PAUL: (1895-1963) German Composer, Violinist and Conductor. A printed small 4to programme, eight pages, n.p., n.d., in German, corresponding to the choirs texts of Das Unaufhorliche, (“The Unceasing”) by Hindemith, signed by the composer to the front page. Signed (`Paul Hindemith´), in bold blue ink, with his name alone, to a clear area of the front cover beneath the title. Very small corner creasing. VG £80-100. Das Unaufhorliche (1931) `The Unceasing´, is an oratorio composed by Hindemith in collaboration with Gottfried Benn (1886-1956), German Poet.

A printed 8vo programme, two pages, for a recital with tenor and piano at La Habana, Cuba, held by the Musical Pro-Art Society, 4th April 1946. Boldly signed by Björling, with his name alone, across the programme. VG £150-200
ELIOT T. S.: (1888-1965) American-born English Poet & Dramatist. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1948. T.L.S., T.S. Eliot, one page, 4to, London, 25th February 1952, to Miss M. St. Clare Byrne. The letter bears two holograph corrections by Eliot. On the printed stationery of Publishers Faber and Faber Limited, Eliot states `..since although I had long given up questioning you on the subject, I had not forgotten the proposed edition of the Lyall (corrected by Eliot) Lisle letters. I knew that you had great difficulty in getting on with this work during the War, and I hoped that you had not abandoned it altogether.´ further concluding `… I shall certainly not decline to allow my name to be used as a patron of this programme.´ An interesting letter referring to Viscount Lisle correspondence. With a file hole to the upper left corner not affecting the text. EX £300-400 Muriel St. Clare Byrne (1895-1983) Prominent historical Researcher, specializing in the Tudor period and the reign of Henry VIII of England. John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland (1504-1553) English General and Politician who led, as a De Facto England ruler, the government of King Edward VI 1550-53, and unsuccessfully tried to install Lady Jane Grey on the English throne after the King's death. The voluminous edition of Duke of Northumberland correspondence would be published in 1981 long after Eliot´s death.

Concorde Chief Pilot: 8x12 inch photo signed by former Concorde pilot Captain John Hutchinson who joined the Concorde fleet in 1977. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1955 and served with No 202 Squadron and was a Flying Instructor until 1963. He then gained his Civil Pilots License and joined McAlpine Aviation becoming the Chief Pilot and Type Examiner. In September 1966 he joined BOAC and qualified as a co-pilot on the Boeing 707. In December 1975 through to April 1976 he took the command course on Vickers VC10s and flew as Captain on VC10 until 1977. He then converted onto the Concorde and qualified as a Concorde Captain in December 1977. He flew Concorde as Route Check Captain until his retirement from British Airways in April 1992. He was a consultant for the US High-Speed Research programme from 1992 until the programme was cancelled in 1998. Good condition

Neatly annotated in a small hand in pencil by the collector to the upper left corner and dated 23rd September 1959. Signed and inscribed to the verso by Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990) American Conductor & Composer of Westside Story. Together with an unsigned small 4to printed programme for a performance by Callas and the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, London, on 23rd September 1959. FANGIO JUAN MANUEL: (1911-1995) Argentinean Motor Racing Driver, Formula One World Champion 1951, 1954, 1955, 1956 & 1957. Signed and inscribed colour 8 x 10 photograph of Fangio in a head and shoulders pose with a pen in one hand, seemingly signing a programme. Signed ('J M Fangio') in bold black ink to a clear area of the image and dated 23rd September 1979 in his hand. Accompanied by an unsigned printed 4to programme for the Avis Formula One Tennis Trophy at the National Exhibition Centre, 24th September 1979, featuring appearances by Bjorn Borg, James Hunt, Clay Regazzoni, Jody Scheckter etc., and apparently the venue where the Fangio signed photograph was obtained a day earlier. A printed 8vo programme for a performance by Segovia with the Halle Orchestra conducted by John Barbirolli at the Royal Festival Hall, London, 27th October 1953, signed by Segovia in blue ink to an inside page to the lower border beneath his image, dated 1953 in his hand, and also signed by John Barbirolli in blue ink with his name alone to his image to an inside page. KLEMPERER OTTO: (1885-1973) German Conductor & Composer. A large 4to printed programme for a Beethoven Festival performance with the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Klemperer, at the Royal Festival Hall, London, October - November 1957, signed by Klemperer in bold ink to the lower white border beneath his inside portrait page, dated 1957 in his hand. Also signed by Christa Ludwig, Hans Hotter, Wilhelm Pitz and a few others, each alongside their portraits to an inside page. Some age wear to the lower right corners of each page and some light dust staining and a large tear to the cover. Together with two further printed 4to and slightly smaller programmes individually signed by the composers Aaron Copland (first name largely faded and only just visible, 1968) and Richard Rodney Bennett. A series of nine adjoining oblong 4to pages removed from a visitor's book relating to the Malvern Festival 1929-32 individually signed by over eighty visitors to the Festival, mainly writers, composers, artists and performers, including Edward Elgar, Granville Bantock, Walter Peacock, Gordon Bottomley, Arnold Bax, Cedric Hardwicke (2), Harriet Cohen, George Bernard Shaw and his wife Charlotte, James Carew, Frederick Boas, Gustav Holst, Laura Knight (3; two with small additional sketches in her hand, one a self caricature (?) and the other depicting a row of buildings and trees) and her husband Harold Knight (2; one with a small additional self caricature in his hand), Hugh Walpole, Harold Harvey and his wife Gertrude (with a small series of three self caricatures in their hands), Lascelles Abercrombie, Mary Anderson de Navarro, Barry Jackson, John Drinkwater and his wife Daisy, her daughter Tanya Moiseiwitsch, Irene Vanbrugh, Cicely Hamilton, William Inge, Leticia Chattock, Tess Chattock (relatives of Cecil Beaton) etc. The majority of signatories have added brief details of their address alongside their signatures. Churchill, with holograph salutation and subscription, one page, 4to, 10 Downing Street, Whitehall, 19th November 1954, to [John E.] Harvey. Churchill announces 'My Husband and I have read your revised programme for Tuesday evening, and we think it excellent. We are both greatly looking forward to the occasion' and continues 'I am so sorry, and I know Sir Winston is too, that we had to ask you to alter the original arrangements. Thank you very much for being so kind about it'. One file hole to the upper left corner, not affecting the text or signature, VG John E. LINDBERGH CHARLES: (1902-1974) American Aviator who made the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean, 20th - 21st May 1927. A fine original pencil drawing by amateur artist Hilda S. Peterson, on a folio (9.5 x 12.5) sheet, the image depicting Lindbergh in a profile head and shoulders pose. Signed by Peterson with her monogram and additionally annotated by her at the base, 'Drawn from life in Paris by S. J. Wade. In the N.Y. Times June 12 '27. Copied by Hilda S. Peterson'. The drawing is also signed ('Charles A. Lindbergh') by Lindbergh in bold fountain pen ink and dated 25th July 1927 in his hand. Accompanied by a small selection of printed ephemera and photograph (1) relating to Lindbergh including a folio souvenir programme for a Nungesser-Coli benefit performance at the Roxy Theatre, 15th June 1927, and featuring an appearance by Lindbergh. A few minor, light stains to the edges of the drawing and some small pinholes to the corners, none of which affect the image or signature. Some age wear and other faults to the ephemera. Shirt comes with the official programme for the match. Vendor purchased the item along with a number of other personality items from the same match.
