MAN UTD - RANGERS 74 Manchester United home programme for the game v Glasgow Rangers, 9/3/74, friendly in theory but notorious for some of the most violent scenes ever seen at a British football game, United were perceived as being a Catholic club with strong links to Celtic and Ireland whilst Rangers fans were not particularly angelic at the time, in line with many others it should be stated, but the resulting crowd violence lead to horrific scenes. That United were experiencing a difficult season and one that finished with relegation and more crowd violence in the game v Manchester City which was abandoned shows that supporters of both of the two teams were incapable of being well behaved at the time and this game was an accident waiting to happen and it duly did. Programme is in good condition, complete with token and no writing. Good

A signed and inscribed printed programme for the French Section of International Friends for a musical evening dedicated to the works of Arthur Honnegger, one page, 4to, 4th December, n.y. (c.1930), at theInternational Institute of Intellectual Cooperation, Paris, in French. Signed ('A Honegger') in bold black fountain pen ink to a clear area of the page, beneath a short inscription, in French, and further signed in pencil by Paul Valéry (with his initials only, using Greek letters). Some light surface creases and two neat folds. G Paul Valéry (1871-1945) French Poet, Essayist, and Philosopher.

Rachmaninoff’) on a very small oblong 12mo clipped piece, neatly laid down beneath his portrait on a 4to printed page removed from a programme for the pianist’s recital at the Queen’s Hall, London on 12th March 1938. Together with a selection of signed cards etc., by various other composers, conductors and classical musicians etc., including Leonard Bernstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Elliott Carter, Andre Previn, Pierre Boulez, Mikis Theodorakis, Luciano Berio, Gian Carlo Menotti etc. Some age wear, creasing and tears to the programme page bearing Rachmaninoff’s signature, only very slightly affecting the signature, FR (1), VG to EX, 11

SELLERS PETER: (1925-1980) British Comedian and Actor, a cast member of the British radio comedy programme The Goon Show. A.L.S., Peter Sellers, one page, 8vo, London, 29th May 1951, to [Edward] Brown. Sellers thanks his correspondent for their complimentary letter and remarks 'It's nice to think one's efforts are so genuinely appreciated', continuing 'Its quite likely I shall be appearing at Newcastle Emp. later this year when I should be very pleased to see you'. Together with [Harry Secombe] (1921-2001) Welsh Comedian, a cast member of the British radio comedy programme The Goon Show. T.L.S. by a secretary on behalf of Secombe, one page, 4to, Empire Theatre, Croydon, 11th November 1952, to [Edward] Brown. Secombe thanks his correspondent for their letter and compliments and informs him 'I have already made two records for H.M.V., the first being “If I had the Heart of a Clown” (June 1952) and “Here in my Heart” (October 1952).
