An unusual piece of space exploration memorabilia. With machine stitched edges, very slightly frayed in two places. VGProvenance: the lot includes a Certificate of Authenticity from The International Public Charitable Foundation for support of Russian Cosmonauts. Signed by Shumkin Naum Andreevich, expert in space rarities, the certificate verifies the pennent's signatures and that it was flown onboard the Soyuz TM-5 flight to the Mir Space Station, 1987.

Also signed by artist Christopher Paluso who executed the four images of sportsmen, including Hank Aaron, which appear to the cover and further signed to an inside page of the magazine by artist Michael Taylor alongside some reproductions of his portraits. GIGI: An unusual selection of signed pieces, cards, photographs of various sizes, programme (1) etc., by the author, songwriter, main cast members and a few other individuals associated with the stage and screen adaptations of Gigi comprising Colette (author of the novella, 1944), Maurice Chevalier (Honore Lachaille; a signed piece and a signed and inscribed postcard photograph), Louis Jourdan (Gaston Lachaille), Leslie Caron (Gigi, two signed images and a signed programme), Hermione Gingold (Madame Alvarez) & Vincente Minnelli (Director), Cecil Beaton (Costume Designer), Isabel Jeans (Aunt Alicia), Alan Jay Lerner (Lyricist & Screenwriter), Andre Previn (Conductor of the film score), Frederick Loewe (Composer; a good A.M.Q.S.), Estelle Winwood (Alicia de St. Ephlam), Tony Britton (Gaston Lachaille), Esme Percy (Victor) and Jessie Evans (Sidonie). Each of the signatures and photographs are attractively matted in gold and red to the recto and verso of an unusual display which also features a promotional image for the film version of Gigi and small cocktail glasses and hearts mounted to the matt. Framed and glazed in a plain gold metallic frame to an overall size of 15.5 x 16.5. VGGigi won a record breaking nine Academy Awards at the 1959 Oscars ceremony, only for the achievement to be broken the following year.

BAKER JOSEPHINE: (1906-1975) African-American Dancer and Singer. Vintage signed sepia 5 x 8 printed programme photograph, the image depicting the young Baker in a head and shoulders pose. Signed by Baker in bold black fountain pen ink with her name alone to a clear area of the image. VG

BERLIOZ HECTOR: (1803-1869) French Composer. L.S., H. Berlioz, with partial holograph salutation ('Monsieur'), one page, 8vo, Paris, 15th June 1844, to a gentleman, in French. The form printed letter announces 'I organise a great festival which will take place at the end of July in the room of the Exposition in the Champs-Elysees' and continues 'On this occasion, it would be nice to be able to unite all the musical talents existing in Paris and thus obtain an execution of the masterpieces whose programme is largely composed, worthy of both our capital and the current state of art'. Berlioz further informs his correspondent that a mass of 400 choristers have already been assembled, 'but its action shall be doubled if the main artists and professors - the honour of our lyrical scenes and of our schools - shall consent to appear at the heads of the various groups singing to guide them with their soul and voice', and adds 'It is this favour, Sir, that I dare to ask of your love of art and your kindness towards me'. In a postscript the composer asks for a reply to his letter before 1st July, and instructs that it should be sent to Mr. Ferriere, secretary of the festival, at the conservatory. Some light overall creasing, minor age wear and staining, none of which adversely affect the signature, G The present letter was written during a busy period of Berlioz's life; his highly influential Treatise on Instrumantation was published in early 1844 and it was also in this year that the composer met with his close friend, composer Mikhail Glinka, in Paris. Glinka persuaded Berlioz to embark on one of two tours of Russia, resulting in the French composer jokingly remarking 'If the Emperor of Russia wants me, then I am up for sale'.
