Émile Antoine Bourdelle (French, 1861-1929), Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, Paris 1925, lithograph in colours, printed by Crété, Paris 60 x 40cm (23 x 16in) Three of the four official posters that were commissioned to announce the 1925 Art Deco exhibition were designed by promising young artists with established credentials within the graphic design world (Robert Bonfils, Andre Girard and Charles Loupot). The fourth commission was given to Bourdelle, an older sculptor at the peak of his career, who was considered to be one of the most important of all living French artists. The title of his painting for the poster By Labor and by Genius, and the image itself, both indicate his bourgeois academic background and his connection to the 19th century ""official"" French art world.
