UNIVERSAL ‘BIG BOOK’ 1931-32 (1931). 14.5“ x 11” (37cm x 28cm) A 36 page campaign book created by the studio featuring promotional poster artwork for their forthcoming movies, the highlight being the full colour original pre-production poster for ‘Frankenstein’, which originally featured Bela Lugosi as the monster, before the film was detailed to James Whale to direct and Boris Karloff was cast in his most famous and iconic role. In total there are 26 full colour full page posters, including ‘The Murders in the Rue Morgue’ (1932) that eventually starred both Lugosi and Karloff. Condition: Slight wear and handling to the covers. There is a light water stain upper centre (which could easily be cleaned by a good restorer) and although complete, the pages have been separated. Apart from the above the artwork itself is in superb bright fresh condition. Only 5 copies of this campaign book have surfaced in the past 30 years. An extremely rare and important survivor from the golden age of Hollywood and a must for any horror film collector!
