A late 19th century Zulu rhinoceros horn knobkerrie of traditional form, having spherical head and tapering shaft bound with copper wire. 42cm long, diameter of head 10cm, approx. total weight 948 grams. Pease Note: Matthew Wright at DEFRA, Bristol, has advised that because the knobkerrie is pre-1947 and 'worked', no licence is needed to sell it, but no guarantee is made that the item will be granted a CITES re-export certificate. NB: Overseas Internet bidding is not available for this lot.
A 19th Century Burmese/Thai Dha Type Sword, the 45.5cm slightly curved single edge steel blade with a flat back and engraved line leading for 20cm from the hilt, the silver hilt collar of waisted octagonal form, engraved with panels of flowers and diapering, the elephant ivory hilt of tapering octagonal form, lacks scabbard; a Zulu Knobkerrie, of honey coloured wood, the ovoid head with raised nipple pommel, on a tapering cylindrical haft with flared butt, 57cm (2)
A South African knobkerrie, with wirework bands, 78cm long, a South African axe, with a part decorated iron blade, the wood shaft with wirework bands, 77.5cm long, a Shona axe, with a bulb shape head and relief banded handle, 50cm long, a Zulu wood spoon with a shallow bowl and scorched decoration, 30 cm long and parts of another spoon. (6) Provenance - Collected by Joseph and Alice Kenney, missionaries in Rhodesia, late 19th / early 20th century.
