A 19th Century rosewood framed fire screen with petit point needlework decoration of figures with cherubs by pillars CONDITION REPORTS Overall with wear, scuffs and scratches, shell decoration missing from back of the decorative surmount, various breaks and repairs to the scrollwork to surmount, embroidered panel is attached with sliding lift out section which lifts out from the top, panel has some wear, scuffs and snags, frame has some loose joints and some splits and repairs, size approx. 107 cm high x 56.5 cm wide.

An Anglo-Chinese silkwork mahogany framed two-fold fire screen, 19th century, the frame with openwork fret friezes in the aesthetic taste having graduated glazed panels with silkwork inserts, the larger with arched scene of figures and fanciful bird in a profusely flowering garden, the smaller with a similar square scene, worked in polychrome on a dark blue ground, 110cm total width, 103cm high. Footnote: Purchased from the sale of the contents of Beaucastle House in Bewdley, Worcestershire, 1950. Beaucastle was built in 1877, designed in the Venetian Gothic style by Richard Doubleday and John Ruskin. The screen is thought to have been produced by Liberty and may have been originally purchased by the house's first owner, Alderman George Baker.
