A fine 19th century Italian bronze sculpture. Silenus and Infant Dionysus after the Antique. The satyr stood contrapposto playing cymbals with the infant raised upon his shoulders. Posed by a tree trunk draped with a fleece, pan pipes and trailing vines. Supported on a rectangular textured plinth, 68cm.

John Gibson R.A. (1790 - 1866), painted plaster sculpture of a semi-clad bacchante diverting the attention of a tiger at her feet with her cymbals, signed at rear - J. Gibson 1812, on shaped socle, 65cm high x 23cm wide. John Gibson was the foremost British neoclassical sculptor of his generation.
