Badge. 20th (East Devon) Regiment of Foot Victorian Officer’s Albert shako plate circa 1844-55. A very fine and scarce Crimean War rich gilt example. Crowned star bearing battle honours, mounted with ornate coiled bugle resting in laurel sprays bearing further honours; seeded ‘XX’ to centre. Beneath the crown, a scroll ‘Minden’; on the star beneath the sprays, the Sphinx on ‘Egypt’. Two loops and one securing wire to reverse. VGC Attributed to Major James Birch Sharpe (1818-54) Severely wounded at the Battle of Inkerman, died Scutari Hospital 29.12.1854. See lot 86 for companion shoulder belt plate. Hugh King Collection
