Naval interest - George V 1827 pattern Royal Navy officer's dress sword, midshipman's George V 1879 pattern dirk and naval officer's belt. The Naval officer's dress sword: in a black leather scabbard with three brass fittings and two suspension rings; the gilded hilt decorated with a fouled anchor and King's crown; ivory coloured shagreen grip bound with gilt wire and capped with a lion's head pommel whose mane runs down the spine of the grip to the hilt; hinged hilt locking mechanism to pin on scabbard; the ricasso marked on one side by the proved stamp and star and maker's mark 'Friedeberg, 31 Queen Street Portsea' to the other side; the blade decorated with arabesques on both sides with the fouled anchor and King's crown on one side and the crest 'dieu et mon droit' on the other; total length of blade 80cm, of sword in scabbard 96cm. The midshipman dirk: of a similar style to sword, in a black leather scabbard with two brass fittings and suspension rings with 'JDG' engraved into brass scabbard fitting; cross guard decorated with acorn finials and crowned, fouled anchor; spring hilt locking mechanism to scabbard; maker's mark to one side of ricasso 'Gieve Matthews Seagrove LTD, London, Portsmouth, Devon' and to other side the proved star; blade decorated with arabesques and stamped 'GR V, by appointment', and crest 'dieu et mon droit' to one side, and crowned anchor to the other; total length of blade 45.5cm, of sword in scabbard 61cm. Naval officer's belt by Chaffin & son naval outfitters: two sword slings and gilt buckle with fouled anchor and crown; all facings decorated with three alternating gilt and black parallel lines. (5)
