A Russian silver samorodok cigarette case by Karl Gustav Lundell, of bark textured design, with cabochon sapphire thumbpiece, 84 kokoshnik assay marks for St. Petersburg 1908-1917, cyrillic maker's mark for Karl Gustav Lundell. Offered for sale with a valuation from Wartski dated 24th September 1964 stating the box is by Lundell. Karl Gustav Johansson Lundell (1833-?) was one of a number of Swedish Finnish workmasters employed by Fabergé. Having started his career in St Petersburg, chiefly as a maker of cigarette cases, Lundell became chief workmaster at the Odessa branch of Fabergé which opened in 1890 and closed in 1918.
