PRESIDENT NOTTS C.C.C., the ashtray engraved with the cricketer`s monogram, by Walker & Hall Ltd and A & J Zimmerman Ltd, Sheffield 1907 and Birmingham 1927 respectively, a portrait miniature of John Gunn, watercolour, 10 x 7cm, signed with initials PRT and a varnished cut-out photograph backed on wood, cigarette case 3ozs (4) Provenance: John Gunn and by descent to the present vendor. John Richmond Gunn (1876-1963) was born at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. One of the great names of English cricket of the Edwardian era. He played in six Tests from 1901-1905. Making his debut for Nottinghamshire in 1896 he was soon recognised as an extraordinary bowler, being named Wisden`s Cricketer of the Year in 1904. A member of that most celebrated of Nottinghamshire cricketing families, he was the nephew of William Gunn (1858-1921), elder brother of George Gunn (1879-1959) and uncle of George Vernon Gunn (1905-1957). ++Cigarette case in good condition with a few minor dents etc but no repairs, the engraving free from significant wear etc, the ashtray of slightly worn appearance. The miniature in good condition, the varnish on the cut out photograph rather darkened with time
