A Second World War I.D.S.M. group of four to Sepoy A.Rahim, Indian Army Ordnance Corps,Indian Distinguished Service Medal, G.VI.R., machine engraved (508170 Sepoy. Abdul Rahim. During 'A' Company's attack north of the Customs House. Under heavy M.G., L.A. and Breda fire he drove his truck forward with Sgt. Rogerson to pick up two wounded men. The distance covered was about 800 yards and his truck was hit on several occasions. Military steel travelling/luggage trunk, possibly converted from an ammunition container, named to 'Wallace', good stout construction with catches in working order, steel carrying handles to each end, luggage label for 'Elder Dempster Lines, West Africa Service' to side, interestingly, underneath the paper lining the interior bottom of the trunk there was found a sand cast cap/collar badge to the Royal West African Frontier Force and three cloth officers rank stars, approx 66 cm x 39 cm x 26, together with a smaller trunk 59 cm x 34.5 cm x 20 cm, Lt Norman Wallace travelled with the trunks from Liverpool to Lagos in 1944 with Elder Dempster, the main West African freight and passenger line, then from Nigeria with the 82nd West African Division to India, crossing by train to Burma where he was stationed on the Irrawaddy, then to Rangoon at the end of the war, from there Captain Norman Wallace took the troops back to Nigeria, he then he returned to the UK in 1947, the trunks subsequently returned to Nigeria in 1952 when Norman Wallace took up a position in Colonial Service as a Civil Engineer with the Lagos State Engineering Department, returning to the UK with his family in 1957
