A 1942 left hand drive Dodge WC22 Half-Ton Pick-Up, unregistered, chassis number 81513950, light Olive Drab. The WC range of light military trucks was introduced by Dodge in 1941 and came in a variety of guises. An open-cab weapons carrier, the WC22 was designed to tow the M3 anti-tank cannon as well as transport gun crew and ammunition. Around 5500 were built but less than a handful are believed to be in the UK today. Last registered in the US in 1951 where it was in service as a test drilling rig in the Mojave Desert, this abandoned WC22 was imported into the UK in 2013 requiring full restoration. Over the past two years it has been the subject of a full ground up rebuild by one of the country's leading military specialists. This has included a new oak bed, full mechanical overhaul (strip and rebuild of both the straight six flathead engine and four speed crash gearbox), new wiring loom, full bodywork restoration and sympathetic repaint in US light Olive Drab, new seats, front and rear tilt and considerable detailing. All parts have been imported from the US or fabricated to exact specification. Original wartime markings and date plates have been retained, including paintwork to the rear tailgate with genuine 'US Navy' script. ***A full file of bills and receipts accompanies the vehicle as well as a photographic history of its rebuild, will accompany the vehicle later***. With over £20,000 believed invested to date, this WC22 is now ready to show. No documents See illustrations

Zhub & Loralat Police King’s Police Medal, For Gallantry Pair of Medals. This is a George V pre 1933 issue with coinage head obverse. Awarded to Head Constable Gulab Shah who displayed great gallantry and disregard for his own life when apprehending a gunman. Comprising: King’s Police Medal, “GULAB SHAH HD CONST ZHUB & LORALAT POLICE”, India General Service Medal, clasp “Afghanistan NWF 1919”, “HD CNSBLE GULABSHAH POLICE DEPT”. Medals loose. The announcement of the award was made in the London Gazette on the 1st January 1916. The following extract is taken from the India Gazette: ‘Baluchistan - Gulab Shah, mounted head constable. At Fort Sandeman on the 14th August 1914, ex-head constable Sher Singh after being dismissed from the police got possession of a Pathan’s rifle and a number of rounds of ammunition and attempted to shoot sub-inspector Sundar Singh. He fired at the sub-inspector and missed and then ran to the bazaar where he wounded a local Pathan who died from the effects of the wound. The offender then ran and took cover in a sangar on the hill behind the police rifle butts, and opened fire on the police who were pursuing him. Gulab Shah and seven other policemen ran to cover within 70 yards of where Sher Singh was hiding. Gulad Shah was not content to lie down as soon as he reached cover, but with great gallantry crept up to within 28 yards of the murderer, then stood up, challenged him and took him prisoner. Had Sher Singh’s rifle been loaded at the time he was challenged, Gulab Shah would certainly have lost his life. His brave act secured the surrender of Sher Singh without further bloodshed.’

St Nazaire was targeted because the loss of its dry dock would force any large German warship in need of repairs, such as the  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_battleship_Tirpitz" \o "German battleship Tirpitz" \t "_blank" Tirpitz, to return to home waters via either the HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Channel" \o "English Channel" \t "_blank" English Channel or the  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIUK_gap" \o "GIUK gap" \t "_blank" GIUK gap, both routes of which were heavily defended by British units including the Royal Navy's  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Fleet" \o "Home Fleet" \t "_blank" Home Fleet, rather than having a safe haven available on the Atlantic coast. The obsolete  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroyer" \o "Destroyer" \t "_blank" destroyer  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Campbeltown_(I42)" \o "HMS Campbeltown (I42)" \t "_blank" HMS Campbeltown, accompanied by 18 smaller craft, crossed the English Channel to the Atlantic coast of France and was rammed into the Normandie dock gates. The ship had been packed with delayed-action explosives, well hidden within a steel and concrete case that detonated later that day, putting the dock out of service for the remainder of the war and up to five years after. A force of commandos landed to destroy machinery and other structures. Heavy German gunfire sank, set ablaze or immobilised all the small craft intended to transport the commandos back to England; the commandos had to fight their way out through the town to try to escape overland. They were forced to surrender when their ammunition was expended and they were surrounded. After the raid 228 men of the force of 622 returned to Britain; 169 were killed and 215 became  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_war" \o "Prisoner of war" \t "_blank" prisoners of war. German casualties were over 360 dead, mostly killed after the raid when Campbeltown exploded. To recognise their bravery, 89  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_awards_and_decorations" \o "Military awards and decorations" \t "_blank" decorations were awarded to members of the raiding party, including five  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Cross" \o "Victoria Cross" \t "_blank" Victoria Crosses. After the war St Nazaire was one of 38  HYPERLINK "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_honours" \o "Battle honours" \t "_blank" battle honours awarded to the Commandos; the operation has since become known as The Greatest Raid of All within military circles.
