Cutts was an important provincial maker, first encountered with at 58, Norfolk Street, Sheffield 1825-28 and thereafter at 43 Division Street to 1845 when he either died or retired. He was a domestic, mathematical and philosophical instrument maker, and supplied (according to his trade card) spectacles, telescopes, opera glasses, mathematical and nautical instruments, barometers, thermometer etc. The Queen to which he was appointed was Queen Adelaide and the inscription on the first draw clearly implies that she was still Queen and not dowager, making the date of the telescope c. 1830-37.
