John Lennon interview recording conducted by John Hill student of Hull University on the 16th October 1964 at the A.B.C. Theatre Hull on behalf of the university newspaper 'Torchlight'. The interview lasts eight and a half minutes. It catches John in an upbeat breezy mood answering questions about the following topics: the song writing process ('sometimes you get an idea ....I dunno....my left leg.... and then write about that....'), recording (.... 'they just say - you're recording on such and such a date and they hope we turn up with some good songs written ....'), an alternative career path (.... 'I'd probably just have been a lay-about....'), failing at college (....'some other lads did my exams for me ....'), reading matter ( Clockwork Orange, Alice in Wonderland), his books of prose, tastes in music, the Blues, The Rolling Stones, being a Beatle vis-a-vis anonymity ('Whatever I'd be I'd choose to be rich .... who wants to walk down the street?').The interview was recorded on 1/4 inch Emitape on a Fi-Cord Fidelity Recording machine. The reel-to-reel tape comes in its original Emitape plastic box and is accompanied by the Fi-Cord reel-to-reel machine on which the interview was originally recorded. Also included in this lot are a copy of the 'Torchlight' newspaper from 21st November 1964, two photographs of the interviewer with John Lennon (the interviewer is pictured to the left of John Lennon in the photograph in which John is signing a sketch) and one photograph of Paul McCartney with another reporter, the largest measures 12 x 16.5cm and a transcript of the interview. The recording is also accompanied by the original Fi-Cord tape recorder with microphone, four original 2v batteries and battery charger. The tape recorder has been adapted to take 3xAA batteries and the 2v battery charger is fitted with a standard UK 3-pin AC plug. The interview was recorded in the press room prior to the Beatles concert at the A.B.C. Theatre and is sold with copyright.
