Overall a very good example of an extremely rare item of British Airborne forces clothing. These smocks were the first examples produced and issued to the newly formed British Airborne Forces. They were a direct copy of the early German Paratrooper smocks, which were also a step-in pattern. These early smocks were issued to the Airborne forces which took part in the Bruneval Raid (Operation Biting). They were soon proved to not be very effective as they were not quick to get in and out of and as a result were very soon replaced by the more commonly found Denison Smocks and Parachute Oversmocks. Very few of these early pattern smocks remain on the collecting market as many were dumped or altered for use after WW2. For more details about these items please see “Denison British Airborne Specialist Clothing From WW2 to the Present Day” by Bruce Wilson.
