WW2 Special Operations Executive SOE / Chindit Issue Pencil Dagger. Illustrated in Fighting Knives By F.J. Stephens” A rare issue of a pencil containing a thin fluted blade with cotton binding. GC. This actual pencil is illustrated on Page 111 of Fighting Knives by Frederick J Stephens. A comparison of this pencil to the example illustrated shows no doubt. This concealed pencil weapon was issued to both SOE agents and Chindits. The idea being the pencil could be broken the blade removed to be used as a hand weapon or attached to a section of bamboo and used as a pear.

A very rare example, this all steel knife has a double edged blade which has a length of 4 1/2 inches and is made from fine quality steel. The hilt retains it’s original cord binding. Overall length 8 inches. Slight surface rust marks. This actual dagger is illustrated on page 109 of Fighting Knives by Frederick J Stephens. A comparison of this dagger to the dagger illustration shows no doubt.
WW2 “Per Ardua Libertas” Important Original MI9 Book of Gadgets for the Special Operations Executive SOE / Escape & Evasion. A rare and important original 1942 printed edition of “Per Ardua Libertas” (Liberty Through Adversity. ) produced by British Intelligence Section MI9, showing concealed gadgets produced at the time to aid SOE agents and British prisoners of War. The book one of only 100 thought to have been printed, contains, examples of silk escape maps, illustration of various ways to conceal compass, maps, saw blades in a variety of civilian and military common items. The book with original Moroccan leather cover with gilt tooling. Minor age wear. This book was printed by MI9 for a visit to the department by US intelligence officers who wanted to share and use the ideas of MI9. Classified as “Most Secret” it is believed that only 100 of these books was printed

WW2 RAF / SOE Miniature Brass Telescope. A good very scarce example with good magnification for its size. 3 cm long when closed, 4.3 cm long with single drawer extended. Generally GC. Developed by the Special Operations Executive from the slightly larger escape and evasion version produced by MI9 for downed aircrew and other would be escapers.
WW2 RAF / SOE Comb Developed by MI9 A very rare example of a black Bakelite comb, which will contain a swinger compass or saw blade. Length 5 inch. This aid appears in the MI9 Secret 1942 publication “Per Ardua Libertas”. A similar comb is held in the collection of Camp X Museum of Canada and was carried by SOE Agent Andy Daniels.

Black metal body, which conceals an escape compass to the base. Overall GC but with some scratch marks. It is interesting to note this example fitted with an early issue escape compass.

WW2 SOE Agent / Commando “Hat Pin” Assassination Thrust Dagger. Illustrated in Fighting Knives by F.J. Stephens. A very rare example, the slender fluted spike blade, is fitted into an alloy handle designed to fit in the palm of a clenched fist with the index and middle fitting either side of the hilt. Housed in original polished soft brown leather scabbard. The blade length ins 6 inches the overall length is 7 1/2 inches. Slight age wear GC. This actual dagger is illustrated on page 109 of Fighting Knives by Frederick J Stephens. A comparison of this dagger to the dagger illustration shows no doubt. The book gives incorrect blade and overall length details.

This example with two full length zips to the front, plus a pistol pocket. The interior with numerous pockets, including a padded pistol pocket. Retaining original zips and press studs. The suit remains in good clean condition, but please note some oxidising to metal furniture. Zips appear to be in running order, but require some attention.

Within a gilt oval oakleaf wreath surmounted by eagle and swastika, a silver speeding destroyer with its bows breaking through the wreath. Reverse bears “Schwerin, Berlin 68” and retains horizontal tapered pin and small hook to reverse of eagle. Minor service wear. GC Authorised 4th June 1940 by Grand Admiral Raeder.

Large number hand written notes... etc. General Major Karl-Henning Von Barsewisch. was born in 1895 and served during the Great War with the Army. In 1935 he was accepted into the Luftwaffe Reserve. At the time of the start of the log book he was serving as Chief of Operations of the Commander of the Luftwaffe with the 4th Army. He regularly flew and saw service on the Eastern Front. In 1942 he was appointed Commander of Luftwaffe of Panzer Group 2. After further appointments in November 1942 he was appointed General of Flying Reconnaissance and General of Luftwaffe a post he held until captured on the 8th May 1945. The award of the War Cross in Gold is confirmed.

This interesting group of documents refer to the award and permission to wear the British Coronation Medal of George VI in 1937. Four documents with various stamps and signatures. ... Accompanied by a 1937 Coronation Medal. Oberleutnant Boehm-Tettelbach served with army holding the rank of Oberstleutnant, Lieutenant Colonel at the Coronation of King George VI he served as aide to Field Marshal von Blomberg not only to represent Germany at the coronation, but to have talks with senior British politicians. It was after this trip and the reports given to Hitler, that orders were given for more resources be given to the armed Forces. During WW2. he transferred to the Luftwaffe and commanded a Heavy destroyer fighter wing. He was later appointed to Hitler’s Headquarters Staff and was one of the German Staff Officers present at the surrender to the Allied Forces in May 1945. In the post war years he moved to the USA and worked for Pan Am Air line. He died in 2001

Instituted 19th April 1940 and designed by Ernst Wilhelm Peekhaus.

The helmet is the early pattern tailored for exterior wiring and the D type canvas oxygen mask. This example fitted with earphones (wiring absent), also with the ink number of the original owner “NZ415632”. Overall slight wear, near VGC.
WW2 RAF Bomber Command Aircrew Caterpillar Club Badge & POW Wartime Log. A scarce pair awarded to Flight Sergeant M.A. Green a Flight Engineer with 427 Halifax Bomber Squadron, who was shot down as his aircraft approached Stuttgart March 1944. Comprising: Gilt brass Caterpillar Club badge, with engraved name “SGT M.A. GREEN”. Gilt worn to base metal. ... The Wartime log contains a large number of drawings, cartoons, words and thoughts completed at his time of imprisonment in Luft 6 & Stalag 357. The log is accompanied by copy photographs of F/Sgt Green wearing RAF Battledress uniform and his Caterpillar Badge. Flight Sergeant M.A. Green was a Flight Engineer with 427 Squadron. On the evening of the 15th March 1944 he was briefed for ops to Stuttgart and as his Halifax LW559 approached the target, they were attacked by a night fighter that knocked out one engine. A second night fighter set the aircraft on fire and damaged a further two engines. The skipper gave the order to bail out and all the crew survived to be taken POW. The Gilt Brass Caterpillars were issued by Irvin as a wartime economy measure and could be later exchanged for gold examples.
