Wilkinson & Co., Sheffield 1877/79, and a cased set of four salts with spoons, by Thomas White, London 1881; the case measuring 7.25" (8.2 cms) wide; 29.1 oz weighable silver (lot)
A late 19th century heavy cavalry officer’s service sword, plain, plated, very slightly curved fullered blade 35”, by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London (no number on backstrap), DE towards point, pierced steel honeysuckle pattern guard, chequered pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, in its brown leather covered FS scabbard (worn and split). Sword basically GC, the blade retaining most original plating (small rust patch along one edge, light rust to hilt).
A Vic Royal Naval officer’s sword, plated blade 31½”, by Wilkinson no 13921 (for 1865), etched into crowned Royal Arms and crowned fouled anchor in panels, gilt hilt with crowned fouled anchor, turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound white grip, in its gilt mounted leather scabbard. GC (polished and refurbished overall)
~ An Oak Thirty Hour Longcase Clock, signed Wilkinson, Wigton, circa 1770, flat top pediment, double arch trunk door, canted base, 11-1/2-inch square brass dial, dial centre signed, ''penny moon'' and lunar apertures, date aperture, four pillar movement with an anchor escapement and countwheel striking on a bell, 208cm high 04.12.19 Case with chips and cracks in parts, hood with some mouldings missing, bottom right hand side foot is damaged, both back feet are missing, dial is dirty, movement is dirty, with pendulum and weight. Pendulum suspension is missing.
A Stranger in Distress.- Wilkinson (Thomas, lawyer and schoolmaster) A Paraphrase on Hor: Lib: 3. Ode 16, ?autograph manuscript, title, introduction and 4pp., foxed, browned and creased, title and last f. margins repaired with tape, unbound, sm. 4to, [c. 1750].⁂ A rare survival and possibly a unique work. The author in his introduction to the Rev. Mr Attwood gives a brief autobiography of his misfortunes. "Bred to the law" and practising as an attorney in London, Wilkinson was sued on behalf of a near relation and had to retire to Cornwall and work as a teacher, leaving his wife in London. In search of another more lucrative job and rejoined by his wife, Wilkinson returned to London and addressed this variation based on Horace to Attwood in the hope of some charity, naming himself as "A Stranger in Distress".
A mixed group of ceramic vases dating form the early 20th Century to include an Art Nouveau Secessionist vase of slender form having a mottled orange ground, raised on a stepped square base. Together with a matching pair of Czechoslovakia Amphora pottery vase decorated with bands of incised flowers and a Royal staffordshire Wilkinson Burslem lustre vase decorated with birds and foliated detailing. Tallest measures 32cm tall, 15cm wide.
