A Victorian Ebonised Striking 'Boulle' Portico Mantel Clock with Musical Cylinder Movement Contained in the Matching Base, circa 1850, highly decorative 'boulle' case inlaid with brass, tortoiseshell veneers, mother of pearl and blue and white enamel, raised upon an ebonised base containing a cylinder musical movement, start/stop pull levers and a wind up cord to the side of the base, 3-3/4-inch enamel dial with Roman numerals, twin barrel movement with outside countwheel striking on a bell, grid iron type figural pendulum, 62cm highCondition report: Ebonised surfaces are rubbed in parts, small scratches and minor dents in parts, clock case with small cracks and chips to the edges in parts, case front with some brass inlay missing and lifting in parts, some enamel is chipped and missing, plinth which contains the musical movement with scratches and rubbing to the ebonised surfaces, top base panel is slightly bowed and the joints are slightly separating to the back, dial with chips and hairline cracks, movement needs cleaning, movement in going order, musical movement is dirty and needs cleaning, musical combe teeth are all complete, musical movement is working.

Provenance: The Selwyn Demmy Collection.Condition Report: Movement complete and in working condition although a precautionary gentle clean/service is advised if intending to put the clock into long term service. The mechanism appears all original except the pendulum suspension has been converted from silk to spring (but still utilises the original backcock). The dial has some light surface scratching and some fairly minimal wear to the numerals otherwise is in very good original condition.
