Gellier a Paris along with the trademark of the movement maker Japy Freres, the brass cast dial with applied enamel plaques with blue Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands, the cast brass portico case with pillars to the front encasing a matching pendulum, with a cast urn to the top and standing on matching cast feet, height 53cm.

A REGENCY ORMOLU PORTICO CLOCK BY BAETENS, 23, GERRARD STREET, SOHO, LONDON, c. 1820. H: 36 cm. A fine quality English mantel ormolu timepiece by this respected firm of London clockmakers. The ormolu case is of classical style with a rectangular base applied to the front with cast berried foliage, mask and central bronze recumbent lion. The fusee movement with enamel dial is fully signed on the backplate on a silvered cartouche and is contained within a gilt drum supported on twin tapered ringed columns and surmounted by a central eagle with outstretched wings. Joseph Baetens was in business during the first quarter of the 19th century and is very well known as one of the most important makers of English bronze and ormolu clocks in London during that period. Provenance: British private collection.
