Chinese Hat Buttons Three hat buttons, China, including one opaque red, one opaque pink and one gold colored, largest 2 3/4" h. Provenance: From the family of Lawrence Mead, co-director of the International Student Association of Greater Boston was born in 1888. He joined the International YMCA in 1912, after graduating from Princeton University. In 1913 he was sent to China to teach English, and subsequently spent much of his life living in Beijing, returning from time to time to the U.S. He joined the faculty of Yenching University, where he taught English and acted as a photographer for the University.
