An Austin Reed silk top hat, internal dimensions 20.5 cm x 16.5 cm. and a dressage top hat by Henry Burton, internal dimensions 19.5 cm x 14.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The height of the Henry Burton Dressage hat from the brim to the top is 13 cm. The hat is in reasonable condition. There is some wear to the underside edge of the brim and a small loss just next to the join on the felt band that runs around the hat itself. We have not looked underneath the felt band. The mesh netting is in poor condition. The height of the top hat is 14.5 cm. The condition is generally good with only very minor wear to the underside edge of the brim.
Attributed to Anthony Devis, pair of watercolours, Cheshire scenes. Each 30 cm x 42 cm, framed. CONDITION REPORT: These pictures are framed and glazed. We have not removed the pictures from the frames but in our opinion the images are laid down. There are no labels on the reverse of the pictures simply a monogram AD in the bottom left hand corner of each. The colours are certainly faded. The blues & greens are not particularly strong but they are clearly visible. For instance the picture with the castle the figure in the foreground is wearing a blue hat and cape and the figure on the horse a blue jacket. There are various shades of green in the foliage of all of the trees but this is not bright. The second picture is similar. The principal colours are beige and brown but there is some colour visible on the three figures to the front of the picture and also the skirt of the lady to the left on the path. The greens within the foliage are visible but certainly faded. Both pictures have traces of blue in the clouds.

Blampied Dec' '08', in plain gold frame, 12 5/8 x 8¾in. (32 x 22.2cm.), * Condition: Surface dirty and scattered foxing. Acidic mount.
Royal Naval Captains Full Dress Cap, Epaulettes and Undress Sword Belt, the set is all housed in the original japanned metal storage tin with painted details of the original owner to the lid, “A.B. WEBB RN”. The cocked hat of beaver skin covered body with fine gilt bullion wire decoration and single gilt RN button, each end with bullion wire tassels. Interior of the cap is in mint condition, retaining the original white leather sweatband and silk lining with J Baker & Co, Portsmouth retailers details. Bullion officers dress epaulettes with single bullion kings crown (Anchors missing) and wire tassels. Mint condition leather backed officers undress sword belt with three rows of bullion wire decoration, gilt metal kings crown belt buckle which retains all of the original gilt wash finish and the two piece sword hangers. Lining to the inside of the transit box is in excellent condition as is the exterior of the tin, showing just very minor scrapes from storage. The set appears to have been hardly ever worn.

Housed in the original metal storage tin. Accompanied by Royal Navy officers leather undress belt with sword hangers and gilt metal buckle; Royal Naval Reserve officers undress belt and buckle. BRITISH NAVAL OFFICER'S SHORT SWORD together with Naval officer's cap, hat band, bosun's whistle and a civil yachting cap. The sword with sharkskin wirebound grip and lion's head pommel, acorn cross piece and etched blade with Royal Coat of Arms, brass mounted leather scabbard. 62cm long. (5)Provenance: belonged to Commander Rupert Warden James, Royal Navy, 1902-1965, served on HMS Strongbow and HMS Dwarf during the First World War followed by Greenwich Naval College, HMS Barham (Lieutenant Commander) and HMS Vernon (Commander, 1934) followed by the Admiralty, became Commander in 1939 of the Controlled Mining Establishment at Purbrook which was part of HMS Vernon. Retired 1960. Mentioned in despatches during 1918, details available. CONDITION REPORT: The knife blade has areas of tarnishing but appearing to have no other damage, scabbard is scuffed and marked in places but complete with suspension loops. Some minor dents to metal mounts. Caps and other items are grubby but appearing original, if well used.

There is a crack through the base and through the tree trunk behind him She has lost the little finger from her right hand and there are losses from the foliage applied around her

She liked to play comedic roles and was regarded as one of the finest comedienne's of her time. She also played tragic roles, once playing the part of Hamlet, and sang the oratorios of her friend Handel. Henry Woodward (1714-1777) was a Shakespearian actor who joined Garrick's company in 1748. He worked alongside Kitty Clive as her comic opposite. He also wrote plays - his pantomime, Queen Mab, had a highly successful run in Drury Lane. Her hat is chipped. His left leg is currently off but present. It appears that the bottom half of the figure has been broken at some point and glued together from the waist down

Her parents were Louisa Sneyd, nee Bagot (1764-1834) and Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Sneyd (1752-1829). The Sneyds of Keele Hall were landed gentry, prominent in county society, with several members of the family serving as MPs, Sheriffs and Mayors for Chester and Staffordshire. Louisa Sneyd encouraged her daughters (Harriet, Fanny, Charlotte and Elizabeth) to develop their creative and artistic talents and they were taught by the artist William Mulready, RA. Charlotte in particular possessed considerable artistic ability. Harriet did not marry and lived alongside her two unmarried sisters, Charlotte and Elizabeth. The Thynne family regularly feature in the Sneyd family correspondence. Keele University hold Charlotte Sneyd's panoramic watercolour of Almack's Assembly Rooms (1819-20), spanning more than two metres and depicting almost 200 people, including Lord John Thynne in conversation with Lady Georgiana Bathurst. All unframed, some foxing, in original condition. Approximately 80 in the lot.
Manner of Petrus Christus (Netherlands, c. 1410/1420 – 1475/1476) Portrait of a man wearing a shtreimel hat, half length, holding a silver bailiwick cup with a coat-of-arms - bears date of 1463 and the age of the sitter, 44 oil on panel, in a good gilt Kentian frame with four sunflowers at the corners 16 x 12cm (6 x 5in) The Coat-of-Arms on the beaker has not yet been identified. Quite dirty. One corner of the old gilt Kentian frame is missing.
Frederick Goodall, RA (British, 1822 – 1904) Portrait of Miss Isabella Wilson, when a child, in a large hat, half-length, in pink signed lower right "Frederick Goodall, RA" oil on hardboard 63 x 54cm (25 x 21in) Provenance: By descent within the family of the sitter. Paint layer is in a good condition, there are a few very small scale losses around the sitter's mouth. The grid pattern used to mark out the composition is visible beneath the paint layers. The frame is worn with several areas of loss to the gilding.

He was Prince of England and of Scotland, Duke of York and Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He was known as Henry IX & I King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland (31 January 1788 - 13 July 1807). He was the second son of James Francis Edward Stuart, known as 'The Old Pretender'.Provenance: Woolley & Wallis, 26 January 2005, lot 70.
