An exhibition standard 7 1/4 inch gauge model of a Great Northern Railway Stirling `Single` 4-2-2 tender locomotive, 7, built by the late Mr John Adams of Poole, the model fitted with a brazed and riveted copper boiler with high quality fittings including faux lever type safety valve and twin working safety valves, scale back head with stays, and hinged and tilting fire door, the fine cab with simulated wooden plank floor, the fittings including twin sight water gauges, pressure gauge, push-pull twin-handled transverse regulator with slotted link and butterfly nut, lever-operated cylinder drain-cocks and lever and quadrant-operated reverse gear, safety, blower, injectors, steam brake valves, whistle, clack, blow-down and other valves, the chassis details including twin outside cylinders with inside valve chests controlled through Stephenson link motion, weight shaft and reach rod, mechanical lubricator, two injectors, steam-operated brake gear, whistle, single cylinder oscillating lubricator pump, wood fletched beams on locomotive and tender, and correct coil springing on the driving wheels, the tender details including G.N.R. style axle box covers, water flow and hand brake columns, detailed leaf springs and single acting hand-feed pump, hand-operated brake gear, water cocks, rivet detail, steps, hand and lamp irons, finished in lined green livery and bearing the G.N.R. Doncaster works plate No.7 of 1873, with polished bright-work, 207cm long, the cab 27cm wide. Boiler History: The 7 1/4 inch Gauge Society Ltd. Boiler Tests Records. Club Member 480. Boiler Identity 7N1. Certificate of Hydraulic Test No. SQ 700039 Test Pressure 120 psi. Working Pressure 80 psi, expires 28th April 2014. Steam Test Certificate No. ST 700056 Working Pressure 90 psi, expires 29th October 2009. Issued and signed by Mr Brian Reading , Mr Don Ketley and Mr John Dabson appointed boiler testers for the society. Provenance: Commissioned and purchased directly from the late John Adams. A fine exhibition standard 7 1/4 inch gauge model of London, Midland and Scottish Railway Coronation Class 7P 4-6-2 tender locomotive `Duchess of Abercorn`, 6234, built by the late Mr John Adams of Poole, with a brazed copper super-heated boiler with all normal fittings including quadruple safety valves, swivelling regulator, blower, whistle, brake, injector and blow-down valves, incorporating full external detailing, fine cab fittings include geared reverse gear with indicator and locking lever, hand lever-operated sliding firebox doors, operational drain-cocks and ejector levers, pressure gauges, twin water sight gauges, and wooden planked floor with scale checker-plate, the chassis with twin outside cylinders fitted with Walschaerts valve gear and two inside cylinders, scale twin ratchet lubricators, brass lubrication boxes, drain-cocks, sanding gear, working steam brakes, cast leaf springs and beautifully finished wheels, fluted motion, exceptional external detailing including wash out plugs and doors, lamp brackets, name-board brackets and vacuum connectors (locomotive not fitted with smoke deflector plates), the tender details including 4000 gallon Type II plaque, hand-brake, water pick-up controls and scoop, water valves, steam-driven mechanical coal pusher with cylinder guides, exhaust condenser with condensate return to tender water space, lifting eyes and hand feed pump, finished in lined maroon livery, 290cm long, the cab 35.5cm wide. A fine exhibition standard 5 inch gauge model of Great Eastern Railway rebuilt Class D16 4-4-0 tender locomotive `Claud Hamilton`, 1900, built by L. Labram of Nuneaton in 1973, to the design by J. Holden of the Stratford works, with a brazed copper boiler, silver soldered stays, extended smokebox, superheater, side feed clacks as per prototype and D16/2, two Ross Pop safety valves, and sloping grate with ash pan, the boiler fed by two injectors or donkey pump with hand feed pump in the tender, with two inclined inside cylinders with slide valve gear and Stephenson`s link motion, bronze bushed where possible or hardened, the Adams type bogies equalised and side controlled with working leaf springs throughout, the brakes being steam or air with reservoir, the right-hand side of the model featuring a Westinghouse pump, the locomotive also with twin ram Wakefield lubricator and feed pipes to the axle boxes with separate metering valves, and ratchet lubricator, the fine scale cab including whistle control, driver`s brake shut-off, injector controls, hand pump clack, blower, driver`s brake, grate dumper, rear axle box oilers, regulator, scale pressure gauge, sight glasses, lever-operated drain cocks, wooden planked floor and reversing screw, the later type three 450 gallon six-wheel tender with detailed rivet-work, toolboxes, vents, water cocks, hand feed pump, brake gear, steps, hand-rails and lamp irons, finished in lined Royal Blue livery with vermillion coupling rods, with polished brass beading on the decorative wheel splashers, G.E.R. coat-of-arms on the driving splashers, polished steel ring on the smokebox door, polished copper chimney cap, hand rails, vacuum pipes and couplings, 149cm long, the cab 25cm wide; presented in a glazed brass display case with display track and mahogany base, and accompanied by a series of build photographs demonstrating the high build quality. Light wear consistent with age and use over time. Lamp works. Scuffs and nicks to the finish of the base, which has yellowed. The posts need tightening. The sockets sag slightly so the bulbs are not perfectly upright.
