Rare Steyr 1896 6.5x53R obsolete calibre bolt action carbine Rare Steyr 1896 6.5x53R bolt action cavalry carbine, made for Portugal, 18inch barrel secured by two bands, and fitted with cleaning rod, folding ladder sight, Portugese 'IC' Carlos 1st crest to the receiver, the barrel and receiver numbered 614, the bolt numbered G604. the stock with side-mounted sling swivel and faint unit markings.Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out.95.5cm longThe carbine shows signs of a hard working life. The bore has reasonable rifling pattern throughout which is softening on the edges. There is very minor pitting in the grooves. The metalwork to the outside has been reblued, this is starting to fade in places. There is pitting to the outer sides of the barrel where the stock meets the metal. The polished parts have some surface speckling. The action works correctly and has a positive lock up. The stock has a glued split at the wrist area, the barrel band has some paper packing to tighten it up. There is some chipping to the cleaning rod channel. The butt plate is loose due to one screw hole needing filling and redrilling for a positive fit. There are dents knocks and marks typical of a military firearm.
