REMINGTON BROTHERS: The Remington Arms Co. was a 19th century American firearm, sewing machine, and typewriter manufacturer, later known as E. Remington & Sons. Eliphalet Remington II, the founder, and his sons Samuel, Philo and Eliphalet III, manufactured the first commercial typewriter on March 1873, and their arms were widely used by the U.S government in World War I and WWII. Two D.S., `S. Remington´, and `E.Remington´, respectively, by Eliphalet Remington (1793-1861) and Samuel Remington (1819-1882), the documents being two signed cheques, Ilion, New York, 8th April 1854 and 13th July 1860 respectively. The partially printed cheques are completed by Eliphalet and Simon Remington, and are drawn on the Ilion Bank. Both cheques have a tear to the centre, not affecting the signature. G £100-150
18th century Irish brass-barrelled fowling-piece, by Egan, Parsonstown (Birr). A flintlock sporting gun, the barrel with slightly flared muzzle, named at the breech to 'EGAN - PARSONS - TOWN', the side-plate, trigger-guard, butt-plate, thumb-piece, front-sight and ramrod pipes of white metal, the side guard engraved 'Bequeated (sic.) to - Patrick Egan - at the behest of his father -1778'. The barrel stamped with 1840s Irish firearm registration stamp KS 9584. Total length 51.50in. (130.8cm)

Each stamped with firearms registration marks for West Cork.This pair of Flintlock Calvary pistols and the Irish George III Flintlock Carbine (Lot 17) are consecutively numbered 'WC 429; 430; 431'The Registration of Firearms ( Ireland) Act of August 22, 1843, provided for the granting of licenses to Irish firearm owners and required the firearms to be registered by county, borough or city constabulary officials who recorded the registration and the registry number (normally a letter indicating the jurisdiction followed by a number- usually four digits). The Act required the arms to be marked under the supervision of the relevant inspector of the Constabulary Force. The number indicates the registration as specified in the license.
dating: 1822 provenance: Siena, Smooth, two-stage, 15 mm cal. barrels, first part is octagonal, second, divided by the rings, round, with rib and fore-sight; tang with broad rear sight; lock slightly chiseled with anti-friction systems and sealing (rare for roman style arms), signed inside 'Salvadore Salvadori' on one, and 'In Siena Anno 1822' on the other. Wooden, half stock with checkered palm-rest, slightly embossed with floral motifs, butt with groove, wooden trigger-guard; smooth, brass mounts. Brass-tipped wooden ramrod and brass and iron cartridge extractor. length 123 cm.Notes: Literature: this firearm is described and illustrated in "Antiche Armi da Fuoco Italiane dei secc. XVII-XIX" by Paolo Pinti, 2005, page 40-42.
