A William IV / early Victorian Royal Irish Dragoon Guards full dress accoutrement and regalia group, comprising sabretache, waist belt and straps, shoulder belt and pouch, and a cased set of epaulettes with two sword knots, the sabretache and shoulder belt pouch complete with field service covers, some elements bearing the inscribed name J Andrews. Provenance. The group is accompanied by an old typewritten biography of Captain John Andrews, and related correspondence from the Public Record Office dated 1966. An extract from the latter reads "Enlisted Corporal at Birmingham, 17th August 1807, promoted Corporal in Spain, 21st May 1813, Sergeant in Ireland 25th December 1815, appointed Paymaster Sergeant 12th November 1816, commissioned Quartermaster 20th June 1834, placed on half pay 3rd October 1848, promoted Honorary Captain 18th July 1862, died 6th June 1871." Thence by descent to the vendor.
Royal Navy epaulettes and sword tassles, early 19C by Batten & Adams in original tin - Est £200 to £300 The tassels are for the sword and are ceremonial. They have gilded wire. J Batten of Devonport on the bottom (Batten and Adams were naval outfitters and are good well known makers). Believed he was a new captain of less than 3 years. Late Georgian or early Victorian, early 19th century. It has a kings Crown on it.
A Geo. VI Naval officer's bicorn hat by Gieves Ltd of 21 Old Bond Street, London, together with a matching pair of gold braid epaulettes, cased plume and sword belt, housed in a red velvet lined fitted tin case, named to the lid J.M.G. Waldegrave, with remains of paper label naming Hon J. Waldegrave Lt Commander, 1941. John Montagu Granville Waldegrave. DSC (29th August 1905 - 18th February 1944) was a British Naval Commander during WWII. Waldegrave was the eldest son of the 5th Baron Radstock. He commanded the cruiser HMS Vindictive 1938-39, and the sloop HMS Puffin in 1939. It was whilst commanding the Puffin that he was awarded the Distinguished Service cross for anti-submarine work. Waldegrave went on to command HMS Windsor and HMS Punjabi before being assigned to the cruiser HMS Penelope as executive officer in September 1943. On the 18th of February 1944, Penelope was torpedoed by U-410 while returning from Anzio and Commander Waldegrave was lost with the ship. He left behind his wife Lady Hersey Boyle and two young daughters, and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Having no male heirs, the barony of Radstock became extinct upon upon the 5th baron's death in 1953.

A group of items from the estate of Joseph Joylon Dean, comprising an unattributable WWII Military Cross group, Military Cross, G.VI.R., reverse officially dated '1945', 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with 8th Army Bar, Italy Star, Defence and War Medals, 1953 Coronation Medal plus Officer's Territorial Decoration, G.VI.R., reverse engraved '1950' with G.VI.R., E.II.R. and Territorial award Bars, good very fine, mounted for wearing together with a Tropical jacket with three pips to epaulettes and Highland Division cloth insignia, brass buttons of the Royal Artillery and Ubique collar badges, the medal riband bar for 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star with 8th Army emblem, France & Germany Star, with Battle dress and Army great coat Provenance: From the estate of 7880890 Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant Joseph Joylon Dean Royal Artillery Corps, Royal Tank Regiment (1921-2010). Dean was awarded the British Empire Medal which was Gazetted in the 13 June 1946 Supplement. The group included with the lot was consigned from the same estate. Dean joined 51st Highland Division, he was injured twice in Sicily and then in Normandy where he was wounded in a mortar attack a day after he landed, the Guardian obituary quotes a 'he looked down at his bleeding chest and noticed he was wearing his shirt back to front', interestingly his father was Basil Dean the founder of Ealing Film Studios.
