Barrett of Westol Wine Consultants Ltd. after the double action design corkscrew patented by Birmingham maker Edward Thomason in 1802. A fine fitted coromandel wood paint and print decorated Tunbridge ware sewing box, of sarcophagol form raised on brass paw feet and with gilt brass lion mask ring carrying handles, the front with box wood oval pointed escutcheon. The canted lid with box wood lines and twin black painted arched leaf borders enclosing a cut corner rectangular print titled internally 'Saturn'. A 19th century Henshall type direct pull corkscrew. A wooden handle with small hanging loop and intact dusting brush. Brass shank and with a Henshall button. The Henshall button was the invention of the Rev Samuel Henshall of Oxford, 1795 - the idea was that once the worm is fully in to the cork, with one final turn , the cork is compressed and turned breaking the bond between bottle and cork, making it easier to extract the cork. 14.5cm A 1888 James Heeley and Son A1 Patent double lever corkscrew. A Crown Corker - bottle opener, wire stripper, fruit jar opener, multi tool. Made in England. Parent 13765.
