A PAIR OF SILVER-MOUNTED OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY GRIFFIN (PROBABLY JOSEPH) CIRCA 1770 The steel lock-plates inscribed GRIFFIN and with full walnut stock with silver crest cartouche plates and terminating with hallmarked silver Green Man butt plates, the horn mounted ramrods with 'corkscrew' terminals, the 7inch barrels with London proof marks, 31cm in length overallNote: a pistol with an almost identical lock-plate can be found in the National Trust Collections, Chirk Castle. Joseph Griffin of Bond Street, London, active Joseph 1740 - 85. Condition Report: In working order, springs strong. Knocks, bashes, wear etc. consistant with age and use. Some with impressed marks, Wedgwood. 2 Markers have losses, all in used condition. Tip of corkscrew slight a/f.
