A good 18th century Dutch corkscrew with a wrythen baluster body and a seal foot, unscrewing to reveal a pricker or toothpick, the handle finely modelled as a rocking horse, heightened with engraving, steel worm, no maker's mark, Amsterdam c.1760 (date letter obscured) struck also with two later duty marks, 4in (10cm) long, 2oz.
Various small items: a George IV tea strainer (for insertion in a teapot spout), maker 'RG', Sheffield 1824, a small Norwegian, green enamelled dish, a pair of Victorian knife rests, a pair of mounted antler knife rests, a French napkin ring, a continental mounted bottle cork, a cased pair of spoons, a modern mounted steel corkscrew, a mounted ivory and steel corkscrew and the following plated items: a horn-shaped vinaigrette, two corkscrews and a bottle opener formed as a pair of race horse heads. Sporting interest: a pair of modern knife rests with terminals cast as riding hats, a crop, whip and spurs, a modern cast corkscrew modelled as a running hound, (plated worm), a modern engine turned cigarette case engraved with a pointer, a small paper knife with a cast greyhound mask terminal, and two plated 'hunting' menu holders. A rare Regency Thomason type corkscrew, with a turned bone handle and brush, the brass and japanned barrel decorated in gilt with vine leaves and grapes, to a wire helix, 8in (20cm) l., along with a glazed walnut box. (2) A similar example of this type of corkscrew is illustrated on the front cover of Watney and Babbidges's book 'Corkscrews for Collectors', another example was sold at Christie's South Kensington, 16th November 1994.
