He compiled the `V&A`s Catalogue of British Oil Paintings 1820-1860` and `John Constable, The Man and his Art`.
An autograph book including a collection of various autographs from the 1960's and 70's including Jack Warner, Ray Davies, Brian Jones, Peter Snow, Dave Davies, Kathy Kay, Billy Cotton, Bobby Moore, Gordon Banks, Bobby Shack, Bobby Charlton, Alf Ramsey, Matt Monro, Jimmy Savile, Terry Wogan, Frank Ifield, Tony Blackburn, Geoff Hurst, etc, together with four mounted collections of autographs including The Beatles - John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Bruce Forsyth, actors Ian Carmichael, John Blythe, Gary Miller and Michael McStay, Elizabeth Dunn and Pat Phoenix (in the main collected by the vendor's father when a police constable at London Airport or by the vendor themselves) CONDITION REPORTS All autographs have been collected by private collector, and many are stuck in, on various cards, etc. The collection is overall sound but in used condition. The Beatles photos have been cut out and have been laminated into cards to try to protect them, as have several other signatures (please see photos for examples) - these laminated cards appear to be of the type found in photograph albums with a 'sticky'-based card and a clear plastic flap which presses down on top of it. It is not known whether the sticky-card bases may have adhered to the autographs (we have not attempted to lift them).
JOHN CONSTABLE (1776-1837) "Medway Summer - 1803" - study of two three-mast barques, black ink collectors stamp "I" in an octagon for the Ingram Collection, verso, pencil with wash, 7" x 9". See illustration Provenance: The collection of Sir Bruce Stirling Ingram OBE, MC (1877-1963) (Lugt 1405A) Sotheby`s 17th March 1965. Sir Bruce Stirling Ingram was editor of the Illustrated London News for 63 years. He was a prolific collector amassing over 3,000 works, primarily of maritime interest. Examples from his collection can be found in the National Maritime Museum. In 1803 John Constable spend time on the East Indiaman "The Coutts" accompanying his friend and the captain Robert Torin, on a tour around the Medway and Thames before the ship set sail for China. It is believed this work was one of almost 140 rapid compositions he created during the trip. "I was on board nearly a month and was much employed in making drawings of ships in all situations. I saw all sorts of weather. Some the most delightful and some the most melancholy. But such is the enviable state of a painter that he finds delight in every dress nature can possibly assume". QPM GROUP OF NINE TO A CHIEF CONSTABLE, Order of St John Officer`s silver and enamel breast badge, Queen`s Police Medal for Distinguished Service HAROLD H SALISBURY CH CONST YORK & N.E. YORKS POLICE, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal, Coronation Medal 1953, (replacement) Police LS&GC Medal (CONST. HAROLD F PARRIS) Harold Hubert Salisbury (1915-1991) was born in Worcestershire and after joining the Metropolitan Police in the1930s served in the Fighter Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm during World War II. He was Chief Constable of York and North East Yorkshire Police from 1968. In 1972 he was appointed Commissioner of Police in South Australia. The 1970s were years social and political change in Australia and Salisbury nailed his colours to the mast in a speech where he said "Once you accede to political pressure, both sides have got you." He found the police force beset by one scandal after another and he was summarily dismissed by the Government in 1978. During his six years in Australia his achievements included a notable improvement in Aboriginal relations, the formation of the police dog squad and measures to improve traffic safety. Salisbury retired to his native Worcestershire.

Thomas Fairfax – [Parliamentary Commander in the Civil War] ms document being an abstract of title concerning the Fairfax family. The watermark in the paper suggest that this was drawn up in the early years of the 18th c. Written in English on one page of a bifolium. Good condition. The document concerns a grant of land made by Charles Fairfax and Mary his wife in 1632 to various parties including Ferdinando Fairfax who was to be made Constable of Pontefract Castle during the Civil War. Also mentioned on the document at a later stage is Thomas Fairfax the original commander of the New Model Army during the Civil War.
