An early Victorian turned wood and painted ceremonial truncheon thought to be from Chatham Barracks, Chatham, Kent, the truncheon painted in colours with Royal Coat of Arms, V.R. and dated 1837, initialled "C.B" and worded "Chatham", 23ins, one other Victorian truncheon from Chatham Dockyard, painted and gilded with crowned V.R and worded "Dock Constable" and numbered "5", with turned grip, 17ins, and a turned wood and painted truncheon decorated with a crest and numbered "10", 14.5ins
Burgess (Henry William, c. 1792-1844), Two sketchbooks with Romantic landscapes and tree studies, containing 21 leaves with graphite studies, 14 in the first sketchbook, 7 in the latter, two drawings signed and dated, each leaf c. 265 x 375 mm. (10 1/2 x 14 3/4 in), light spotting and surface dirt, with some browning, in original wrappers, with manuscript pen and ink numbering 'No. 1', and 'No. 4', on the upper covers, respectively, oblong 4to, worn, [circa 1822-1830], (2). ⁂ The present two sketchbooks illustrate Burgess's vigorous graphic style, with some similarity to the more loosely executed watercolours of William Payne, but also show the influence of both Constable and Gainsborough.

An Air Force Cross group of 9 medals to Sir Archibald Frederick Hordern C.B.E. comprising A.F.C (1940), O.St.J, K.P.M, WW1 trio, D.M, 1935 jubilee and 1937 Coronation.Sir Archibald Frederick Hordern was born on 15 June 1889.He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and at Royal Military College, Sandhurst.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the South Staffordshire Regiment. He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1919 and gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force. He was decorated with the award of the Air Force Cross. He was Chief Constable of the East Riding, Yorkshire between 1926 and 1934 and held the office of Chief Constable of Cheshire between 1934 and 1935. He held the office of Chief Constable of Lancashire between 1935 and 1950. He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1942. He was invested as a Knight Bachelor in 1946. He became a Liveryman of the Coachmakers' and Coach Harness Makers' Company. He was decorated with the award of the King's Police Medal (K.P.M.) and was invested as an Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.) He died on 17 April 1950 at age 60.
Of significant Guernsey historical interest, a cased set of St Peter Port special police constable accoutrements belonging to Sgt E. Lock, comprising buttons, whistle and tip staff bearing copper shield form plaque reading 'S.P.P.- S.P.C. 1914, a photograph of Sgt Lock also included, housed in later case.
