Pair of plated double-walled thirteen-keyed Albert-system clarinets in A and E= by Charles Gerard Conn, Elkhart, circa 1895, plated keywork, both instruments with four rollers, ebonite mouthpieces with original ligatures and reed caps, two music lyres on probably original to the E= instrument, lengths 26 3/4", 68cm and 18 3/4", 47.6cm, wooden case (3) Inscribed respectively A 148, Made by C.G. Conn. Elkhart, Ind. and E= 260, Made by C.G. Conn, Elkhart, Ind. *Conn took out the patent for this model of double-walled clarinet on 27th August 1889 (US # 410,072). Minor differences between these two instruments, plus the separation of their serial number, would suggest they were not originally made as a deliberate pair. The low serial numbers suggest a date of manufacture for both of 1895. See Elkhart`s Brass Roots by Mary Downie Banks, p. 31
