WW2 German Army / Waffen-SS Panzer Assault Badge for 50 Engagements by Joseph Felix & Sohne (JFS), an interesting example of a bronze grade maker marked 50 engagements tank assault badge. The award has the correct crimped fittings to the reverse of the award. Some of the dark bronzed finish remains to the centre panzer tank. Complete with the original fixing rivets to the reverse. The pin catch and hook both show stress marks under magnification and are magnetic which is both correct for this maker. The blackened number box has the thin numbers which again is correct for 50 engagement awards. Badge has JFS makers mark to the reverse of the wreath. Overall this is a good condition award. See Volume II of “The German Panzer Assault Badge of World War II” by Philippe De Bock.
Very Rare German Army / Waffen-SS Panzer Assault Badge for 75 Engagements by Joseph Felix & Sohne (JFS), fine example of the rare bronze grade version of the 75 engagements Panzer Assault award badge by the firm Joseph Felix & Sohne (J.F.S), the award has just the remains of the typical late war light bronze wash finish which can only be seen in the highlights of the wreath. The panzer tank has the flaws which are associated with original badges by this maker. Reverse of the award has the crimped hardware catch and pin fittings. The catch and the hook both show stress marks. The rear hardware is magnetic. Rivets to the reverse of the wreath, securing the tank to the wreath, under glass you can see small indentation. Overall this is in our opinion a very good example of a very scarce combat badge. Compares to examples shown in Volume II of “The German Panzer Assault Badge of World War II” by Philippe De Bock.

Circle of George Dawe, RA (British, 1781-1829)Portrait of Lt Col Sir Thomas Noel Hill, KCB, KTS (1784-1832) inscribed to the reverse 'Lieut. Col. Sir Tho Noel Hill / KCB [K]TS MJ A? Gen. / 815 ' oil on canvas, unframed 76.5 x 63.5cmFootnote: Born at Hawkstone Hall, Shropshire, the sitter was the 7th son of Sir John Hill, 3rd Bt (1740-1824) and younger brother of Rowland Hill, later 1st Viscount Hill (1772-1842) who succeeded the Duke of Wellington as the Commander-in-Chief of the British Army in 1828. Sir Thomas, like his elder brother Rowland, distinguished himself during the Napoleonic Wars and fought in the Battle of Waterloo. He entered the army at the age of seventeen and went on to serve as an aide-de-camp to his brother Rowland, accompanying him to Portugal in 1808. He commanded the 1st Portuguese Regiment and received medals for his involvement in the battles of Salamanca (1812), Vittoria (1813) and the siege of San Sebástian (1813). He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Foot Guards in July 1814. In 1815, at the Battle of Waterloo, he served as an Assistant Adjutant-General under the command of his brother, Lord Hill. In 1825, he was promoted to Colonel and in 1827 he was appointed the Deputy Adjutant-General in Canada by the Duke of Wellington. He married, on 27th July 1821, Anna Maria Shore, daughter of John Shore, 1st Baron Teignmouth, by whom he had six surviving children. In the present portrait, Sir Thomas is depicted in his Portuguese uniform, wearing numerous decorations and medals, including the Portuguese Order of The Tower and Sword (KTS), the Order of the Bath (KCB) which he was awarded in January 1815, the Waterloo Medal, Portuguese Campaign Cross, Portuguese Commander’s Cross, and the Bavarian Military Order of Max Joseph. We are grateful to Christopher Bryant for his assistance in identifying the sitter's uniform and decorations. CONDITIONOil on canvas which has been lined. The lining fabric is thin and transparent and the adhesive used waxy – this allows the original inscription and canvas tax stamp to be visible. The paint layer is in a stable condition overall. Wax appears to have been used in the varnish as well as the lining. Along the right hand edge white cracks have formed in the varnish. There is a light film across the surface, also caused by the varnish, creating a slightly milky appearance to the darker paint passages. Areas of overpaint are fairly well matched to the original.

At the outbreak of WW2 he was living in Manchester and joined the Royal Artillery and quickly gained the rank of Sergeant. Hearing about the new Parachute Regiment he volunteered and after gaining his Parachute wings, volunteered for the new SAS Regiment and was posted to No1 Squadron 2nd SAS. He was involved in operations in North West Europe and found himself dropped into France 2 days before D-Day with the aim of disrupting German reinforcements heading towards the Normandy beeches. Shortly after the D-Day landings is patrol was ambushed and he was wounded in the backside and his combat knife damaged, the scabbard accompanying the lot. His wounds appear to have been more embarrassing than fatal as he soon returned to duty and was stranded behind enemy lines during operations in the Vosges when the SAS were hunted and those captured were executed by the German SS. Returning to Allied lines he was later one of the soldiers to enter Belsen concentration camp and his final operation of the War was when his unit was despatched to Norway to hunt down the last fanatical U-Boat crews and SS soldiers. Discharged from the army he returned to his pre war job as a fishmonger at Manchester Fish Market and he died in December 2001 at the age of 81 years

Artist: Damien Hirst (English, b.1965). Title: "Pharmacy Panel (Gold) (2004) (4 panel)". Medium: Color silkscreen and offset lithograph. Date: Composed 2004. Dimensions: Overall size: 36 x 41 1/4 in. (914 x 1048 mm). Image size: 36 x 41 1/4 in. (914 x 1048 mm).Lot Note(s): Signed lower right. Printed with five colors and metallic gold ink. The full sheet. Fine impression. Fine condition. Backed with a conservation support sheet. Provenance: Private collection, Birmingham, England. Comment(s): A panel of wallpaper (the complete pattern). In 1997, for his restaurant called 'The Pharmacy' located at Notting Hill Gate, London, Hirst designed wallpaper (the "wall chart") based on the pharmaceutical giant Merck’s handbook endpapers, showing pills and products and describing them with their pharmaceutical titles. Merck objected and he withdrew it as an artwork of wallpaper, after he had already plastered the restaurant with silver and gold sheets of the material. Hirst's venture gained further publicity thanks to a dispute with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, which claimed the name, pill bottles, and medical items on display could confuse people looking for a real pharmacy. The name itself breached the Medicines Act 1968, which restricts the use of the word "pharmacy". The restaurant's name was subsequently changed to "Army Chap" and then "Achy Ramp" (anagrams of "pharmacy"). Initial plans to open further restaurants outside London were quietly dropped and the restaurant itself closed in September, 2003. Sotheby's dispersed its contents in 2004. For the massive Pharmacy sale at Sotheby’s in 2004, though, new wallpaper was designed and made that didn’t offend copyright laws, using biblical titles and references to biblical passages.
