Seeley Mensch"; see https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/3988099/seeley-e_-mench sadly recording that Mensch died on 20th July 1861, in a Civil War engagement near Cheat Mountain, Virginia, aged 24; furthermore his wife had died just before the outbreak of war, on 12 April 1861. Outdoor Stereoscopic Ambrotype:, an interesting and excellent example of these rare stereoscopic ambrotypes showing an outdoor scene of a young boy sitting outside a house on a high backed chair, looking into a toilet mirror on a small table, the reflection of the boy's face is captured perfectly by the unknown photographer, very lightly tinted to hand and face, gold lined mount, 8.5cm x 17cm.* Notes- See Bonhams, Knowle 9th November 2004 lot 319 for a similar stereoscopic ambrotype which is of the same subject from a further distance, which sold for £390 plus commission.

An incredibly rare 19th century c1860 American Civil War era quarter plate tinted ambrotype photograph. Depicting a gentleman and lady sat facing the camera. Framed in beautiful gold surround, with gold wire braiding. Mounted within a cushioned thermoplastic case, with various Union symbolism ( Artillery ) - cannons, anchor and flags. Condition generally fine, with no damage to the ambrotype. Case measures a total size of: 10cm x 12.5cm. Rare.
