** John Stezaker (b. 1949) - Film Portrait (Incision) VII, 2005 photo collage, signed, titled and dated on an accompanying certificate of authenticity from The Approach, London 21 1/4 x 15 3/4 in., 54 x 40 cm (frame) Provenance: Richard Telles Fine Art, Los Angeles. A prominent figure in radical Contemporary Art since the 1970s, Stezaker came to the fore in the mid-2000s alongside a new wave of young British artists emerging from London's art schools. Utilising the Cubist method of papier-colle, Stezaker takes images from everyday publications such as magazines, art history books, catalogues and encyclopaedias, and splices them into one another by the simple, hand-cafted act of collage. The resultant images have a strange, psychic charge to them, bordering on the Surreal. But it is through this process of deconstruction and reassemblage that the artist manages to represent the fragmented experience of the world and the illusionist nature of photography, supposedly its truthful recorder. IMPORTANT: This lot is sold subject to Artists Resale Rights, details of which can be found in our Terms and Conditions.
