A vintage tan coloured briefcase with studded leather corners containing a cast metal study of a seated Buddha holding a vessel with character mark detail, vintage corkscrew, herb slice, a Delft ware type grinder, etc together with a small vintage briefcase with fitted interior containing two blank greeting card albums, etc
RICE PAINTINGS. An early 19th century album of rice paintings etc, comprising the following 11 full size 20 x 30cm paintings; three exotic bird paintings, four vessels, two botanical paintings, a seated lady reading & a lady playing shuttlecock. The album also contains rice paper scraps, & has been adapted for various 19th century engravings, three annotated watercolours of an Indian bearer, a knife grinder etc & other hand coloured Indian prints. Note: This album of paintings & prints was formerly the property of the Rev. William Tew, Ballysax Glebe (Co. Kildare), and is also inscribed by Hester Tew, January 6th 1840. (Possibly his daughter as by 1837, according to church records, the Rev. Tew was already deceased) CONDITION REPORTS: The 11 rice pictures and the 3 smaller pictures all have some degree of loss or damage to the paper. The 11 paintings are the oriental subjects hand painted on rice paper comprising birds, vessels, flowers and two ladies. There are also 3 annotated watercolours of Indian subjects. The Indian elephant and two figures above a cow, are hand coloured prints. The remaining contents are rice painting scraps and various 19th century engravings.
An interesting mixed collection of kitchenalia including a Spong's red seal knife polisher, marmalade cutter, cream skimmer, sausage maker, two choppers with wooden handles, three can openers, a fish scaler, metal mould, cork press, nutmeg grater, padlock with brass cover inscribed "Improved Secure Tumbler Lock", coffee grinder, pastry brush stamped "Jones", etc.
