NELSON & THE BATTLE OF THE NILE, 1798 a commemorative paper fan titled Glorious Victory of the Nile, 1st August 1798 , the vane printed in monochrome with central portrait of Nelson surrounded by flags and trophies, and flanked by two large ovals containing patriotic verse, top edge bound with silvered paper ( tarnished ) and with bone lower sticks, some old repairs to the vane but nevertheless a very rare survival, extreme width -- 17½in. (44.5cm.) Literature: Nelson, An Illustrated History , National Maritime Museum, 1995, p.95, illustrated.Footnote: All fans which commemorate the British naval victories of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars are considered rare and most of the few examples recorded celebrate Nelson’s final and greatest triumph at Trafalgar. Those for his other victories, including the Nile, are even rarer.
NELSON & THE BATTLE OF THE NILE, 1798 an entertaining paper fan titled Nelson Victory , the vane printed in monochrome, the upper section listing the ships and their numbers of guns in the English and French lines of battle, and the main body announcing the names and steps of “18 new Country Dances for 1799” mostly relating to naval themes, top edge bound with golden paper (tarnished) and with boxwood lower sticks, minor foxing but another very rare and apparently unrecorded survival, extreme width 18½in. (47cm.) Provenance: Exhibited: The Trafalgar Bicentenary Exhibition , 2005, Fan Museum, Greenwich, no. 25 (with exhibition label).

A fine and rare Marklin gauge I tinplate ‘Café Central Station’, German for the French market circa 1905, station mounted on a green painted base with green/cream painted brick effect walls having arched windows with original etched glass, ‘Controle’ signs and detachable ‘Arrive’ sign, ‘Gare Centrale’ painted above stepped arched entrance and Café end, ‘PASSAGE’ above the two side arched openings, three-sided ticket booth with gold painted ornate window surrounds and hand rails, café to the rear with brown wood effect painted hinged doors, interior with table benches and chairs, canopy covered terrace with table and chairs and hand rails, the detachable roof with red painted dome with clock tower and tile effect side roof with pitched painted windows, chimney and ornate electric conductors to flat roof, base stamped Made in Germany, condition is original and generally very good, lacks, clock tower weather vane, one detachable sign Depart, two sections of hand rails and outer posts leading to Controle signs, one hand rail post loose, small dent/scratch to one side of dome roof, some chips/rubs as to be expected, base 42x30cm (16 ½ x 11 ¾”) 35cm (13 ¾”).
Anglo-Flemish School, circa 1700 A Wooded river landscape with figures on a pathway in the foreground oil on canvas 29 x 34cm (11 x 13in) Provenance: The Vane Arms (label to the reverse) Other Notes: An attribution to Peter Tillemans (1684-1734) has been suggested. Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas is in plane with good tension. The paint layer is stable with a few localised losses. There is minor wear and abrasion to the surface, some of which has been overpainted. The varnish is slightly yellowed but even and semi-glossy. The frame is in a good condition.
