(13701816) (13)Nicolas Poussin, 1594 – 1665, afterTRIUMPH OF FLORA Oil on canvas.167 x 249.5 cm.Poussin created the painting on which the present work is based in 1627. It is titled “Le Triomphe de Flore”, measures 165 x 241 cm and is held at the Louvre in Paris under inv. no. 7298. It was initially held in the collection of the later Cardinal Luigi Alessandro Omodei (1608-1685) and was acquired from there in 1685 for Louis XIV.

Cornelis Schut I, 1597 Antwerpen – 1655 ebendaALLEGORIE DES HERBSTESÖl auf Leinwand. Doubliert.122 x 189 cm.Ungerahmt. Ca. 100-300 AD.A bronze figurine encapsulates Victory in a moment of sublime poise. Captured in a standing posture, her form radiates an aura of dignified ascendancy, each contour painstakingly crafted to resonate with the divine essence she embodies. Draped in the elegance of flowing robes, her attire is a canvas for the intricate mastery of the artisans, a tapestry of delicate detail that bespeaks a commitment to capturing the ethereal in tangible form. It is the visage, however, that becomes the pièce de résistance of this bronze masterpiece. Crafted with finesse, the face of Victory is an intricately rendered tableau of features, each curve and line an ode to the artist's prowess. The fine details coalesce to breathe life into her countenance - her eyes, radiant with an otherworldly intensity, seem to hold the gaze of every triumphant soul who has sought her favour. The lips, poised in a delicate curve, offer an enigmatic smile that speaks of the inexpressible elation that follows victory's embrace. Victory, an emblematic figure dating back to the Hellenistic era and embraced by the Roman world, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of conquest and glory. Personifying victory and success, Victory, or Nike in the Hellenic tradition, originated from the grand narratives of ancient Greece. However, her identity seamlessly transitioned into the Roman psyche, encapsulating the Roman reverence for triumph and ascendancy. This revered deity, an allegory for the transformative power of achievement, found her celestial presence invoked on the fields of battle, within the walls of civic architecture, and in the hearts of those who aspired to ascend the echelons of achievement. Size: L:73mm / W:40mm ; 102.5g Provenance: Private London collection, pre-2000s.

Lot 163

Ca. 100 AD.A gold pyxis, characterized by its tubular body and crowned by a meticulously domed lid, further embellished with an elegant suspension loop, stands as a triumph of intricate gold work. The surface of this magnificent pyxis is adorned with meticulously executed ropework scrolls, coiled and undulating in an intricate choreography that echoes the boundless creativity of Roman craftsmanship. This ornate motif intertwines with the golden surface, creating an immersive visual tapestry that speaks of artistry and profound dedication to form. In the realm of the Roman world, pyxides were more than mere vessels; they encapsulated the Roman predilection for refined aesthetics and their proclivity for luxury. These vessels, often employed for storing valuables and precious items, bore witness to the confluence of opulence and functionality that characterized the Roman lifestyle. Size: L:24.7mm / W:13.2mm ; 3.1g Provenance: Private London collection, pre-2000s.

Lot 236

Ca. 100-300 AD.A bloodstone intaglio graced with a depiction of goddess Victory. The form, an elegant oval-shaped gem, commands attention with its graceful proportions. The standing figure of Victory, delicately etched upon the gem, unfolds with an artistic finesse. Cloaked in grandeur, the figure gazes resolutely towards the left, its posture exuding a sense of triumph and ascendancy. The drapery that envelops the figure's form adds a touch of realism to the representation, breathing life into the carving. The goddess Victory, a celestial figure of paramount significance in Roman mythology, embodied triumph and success. She personified the concept of victory in battle, symbolizing the empire's military might and prowess. Size: L:12.3mm / W:8.9mm ; 0.5g Provenance: Private London collection, pre-2000s.

1975 Triumph Stag Transmission: automaticMileage:87336The 'Stag' name was a development codename allocated when the design project was initiated by Giovanni Michelotti in 1965. The svelte Michelotti styling married to decadent V8 power makes this model both beautiful to look at and enormous fun to drive. Add to that a thriving club network, these cars make for hugely desirable ownership.Registered new on 9th April 1975, this lovely Triumph Stag has had just four owners from new and is an automatic example. Presented in blue coachwork over a black interior the Stag presents very well indeed, the paintwork is in very good condition as is the interior and engine bay. The Stag has been in the current vendors ownership for over 24 years! During which time it has been maintained to a high standard with various general work and a restoration being undertaken. In 1990 the body was the subject of a restoration where it was taken back to bare metal and repaired where necessary and resprayed in the wonderful blue coachwork you see today. Fitted with a desirable factory hardtop and offered with a sizeable history file including almost all old MoT test certificates, the V5C registration document, photographs and invoices of the restoration, and sundry bills including an invoice for circa £7,500. This is a very well-presented example that is largely original, one which we believe will be keenly contested at auction.

Lot 153

1963 Triumph Spitfire Mk. I Transmission: manualMileage:The 1963 Triumph Spitfire is a compact and charming British sports car that embodies the essence of carefree motoring. With its sleek lines and low-slung profile, it exudes a sense of timeless elegance. The Spitfire's 1.1 litre four-cylinder engine delivers modest yet engaging performance, accentuated by its lightweight construction. Its minimalist interior and classic cockpit design offer an immersive driving experience. Introduced as an affordable alternative to larger sports cars, the Spitfire became an emblem of accessible fun on the open road. Its enduring popularity among enthusiasts is a testament to its enduring charisma and simplicity. This Triumph Spitfire is possibly the finest example we have seen. The car really is a credit to its enthusiast vendor who not only has an eye for detail but also has the largest collection of this model in the UK. Originally registered in July 1963, this impeccable example presents in the desirable colour of Signal Red following a no expense spared, photographic restoration. The car fired into life on request and, we are told is a joy to drive. The estimate for this impressive example appears realistic given the cost of the works undertaken.

Lot 250

1960 Triumph TR3A Transmission: manualMileage:55883The Triumph TR3 was built between 1955 and 1962 and was usually supplied as an open two-seater, although an occasional rear seat and bolt-on steel hardtop were available as extras. It was powered by a 1991cc engine which initially produced 95bhp increasing to 100bhp at 5000rpm. The four-speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dash. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc becoming the first British series production car to do so. Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 became known for its superior braking ability, making it an autocross favourite.Presented in red with a desirable white hardtop, this magnificent example of the iconic British sportscar boats just four owners in its entire life. Offered with a large history file which contains information going back to 1985 when the second owner, a Mr. Howard purchased the car requiring full restoration. The engine was rebuilt with the crankshaft re-ground and new liners and pistons fitted, along with unleaded valve seats with new valves and new springs. An electronic ignition was fitted, and the gearbox completely overhauled with a new clutch for good measure. The front suspension was updated and braided hoses fitted alongside new side screens rebuilt with a matching hood and tonneau. The third owner fitted a front anti-roll bar, and all the suspension bushes were polybushed alongside narrow V-belt pullies (less friction) and alternator. The car then took part in numerous rallies such as the TR Register Pyrenees tour in 1995 and the Millennium Tour in 2000.In 2012, the car was completely stripped and painted by Bristol Classic & Sports Cars in Clevedon. Contained within the history file are approximately seven A4 size sheets of paper with 35 photographs per sheet recording the recommissioning in 2015, we believe this included twin choke Weber carburettors, servo brakes and electronic fuel pump before tuning on a rolling road. You will be pleased to know that the car comes with old logbooks, tax discs and the factory hardtop which was also restored in 2015.Looked after and cherished without regard to cost, this TR3A with overdrive performs amicably in rallies but would be equally at home on the road and the bills and invoices over the years add up to thousands and thousands. Supplied with a new tonneau cover along with the hardtop, this is a UK car with matching numbers and comes with a BMIH Trust Certificate.Interested parties should note that the hard top for this Lot requires new glass.

Lot 258

1973 Triumph Stag Transmission: automaticMileage:75929Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. The powerplant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors. The newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. However, once in the hands of customers there were quibbles over build quality and engine maladies. Although Triumph itself failed to fully resolve the issues, independent specialists have, and well sorted Stags are now the rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL they were always intended to be.Originally registered on 27th September 1973, this Triumph is finished in Inca Yellow with a contrasting dark brown interior with tan piping and a dark brown mohair soft top. Subject to a comprehensive restoration this Stag benefits from excellent paintwork and interior. The significant history folder confirms an expenditure of over £8,000 with the car having covered less than 100 miles since then. To be expected after such a level of spend, we are advised the car drives with no known faults, the automatic transmission operating as it should with smooth gearchanges. Also benefitting from power steering this Triumph Stag is a perfectly useable example. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 20th February 2024, this is a delightful example for a relatively modest outlay.

Lot 262

1979 Morgan 45020 Transmission: manualMileage:14285With its 1950 Plus 4, Morgan moved upmarket in size, weight, power and price. The British manufacturer realised it might lose some potential customers but was happy to live with the situation for a while. By mid-decade though, the Plus 4 had become more potent and Morgan felt it should, again, field a lower-power car. This explains the revival of the Morgan 4/4 though it was completely different from the car that carried that title during 1935-1950. In fact, the new 4/4 was closely related to the Plus 4. The main difference was engines, purchased from Ford instead of Triumph. The re-born 4/4 began production in 1956 and ran all the way through until 2018. Like other Morgans, it always had the same chassis design, body construction and styling, a kind of technological time warp that customers keep coming back for. Morgan built old-fashioned cars the old-fashioned way and vehicles of that nature just won't be hurried. This particular example wears its 44 years with pride and our vendor reports it is a joy to drive. Presented in Old English White with a tan interior, the paintwork is in overall good condition, with a few age-related marks which are to be expected through proper use over the years. The car is understood to have covered a total mileage of circa 66,000, in the history file there is document from Tim Packer Limited, Morgan specialists denoting a speedometer change in June 1996, at which time the odometer read 51,000 miles, the car has covered less than 15,000 miles since. Our vendor has cared for the car well during his 17 year ownership, having a new water pump, thermostat and auxiliary drive belt fitted in May 2018. Following that, the carburettor was rebuilt and a manual choke was fitted in July 2020. Most recently, the car underwent some structural works on the chassis in May 2023, to ensure an MoT test certificate could be obtained, despite the fact the car is now tax and MoT exempt due to its age. The car comes to auction with V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid until June 2024, various invoices, a spare exhaust back box, tonneau and side screens.
