Inscribed 'C Guillemin & Cie, Port-Louis-Maurice' both on the white enamel face of clock and red ribbon to the inside of the lid of the case, etched 8845N+ to base. Brass carriage clock, the case with Corinthian columns, rectangular enamelled dial, repeating movement striking on a gong (not working), 14cm, in a leather covered travelling case.Condition report:The clock is presently running, the escapement doesn't freely run. But the strike and repeat mechanisms work when the hands are turned past the hour and half hour. (The repeat operating on the button). The escapement is tarnished. The case is in very good condition. The leather case has wear, scuffing, and loss to the leather but is structurally sound, with replacement leather strap.

Joseph, Rue Amelot 114, Paris, is recorded as showing carriage clocks at the Paris Exhibition of 1889 and 1900, where he was awarded a Gold Medal. Tardy gives him working dates from 1852 until 1935. A Grande Sonnerie gilt brass carriage clock made for the Chinese market, with push button repeat and alarm late 19th century, no. 591, in gilt Anglaise Riche case with chased floral and foliate decoration and curled ribbon borders, the recessed base fitted with a selection lever, with white circular Roman enamel dial with Arabic outer 5 minute track and blued steel hands, an alarm dial beneath, within a silvered, engine turned mask, the eight day two train movement signed with three Chinese characters, with silvered platform escapement and striking the hours and quarters on two bells, with push button repeat sounding the last hour at will, 6in. (15.25cm.) high excluding handle, in the original green velvet travelling case with key. *Winds and runs. Strikes correctly and repeat is functioning. Overall condition very good - no notable faults. A few small dark spots of tarnish to surface of gilt case. The velvet travel case is only in poor to fair condition - faded, wear & splits / holes to edges and corners and velvet is partially detached from one side of lid. Carrying handle missing.
